THIS is the listing you book for the 2 bedroom unit. For other units like the upstairs 3 bedroom and cottage, look at our other airbnb.com listings or just ask us!

There is also a separate detached cottage with 1 bedroom with a queen sized bed in the bedroom, and a twin bed in the living room, with a kitchen and a bathroom available for rent.

This home and the experience of staying at this location were amazing. Instructions and communication were excellent. The home is charming and comfortable. It is older and has some "nuances" associated with that, but they only added to the experience for us. It may be a bit rustic for some people as it is a converted basement/lower level. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed lovely meals on the lanai. The access to toys and kayaks for activities on the bay far exceeded our expectations. Swimming with dolphin every morning was the highlight!!

We were made to feel very comfortable. The downstairs unit is shabby beach chic. Exposed floor joists, beams, wiring and pipes. But very fun and functional. The beds were comfortable. Kitchen is nice with great eat in bar. Two bathrooms are nice to have. Ocean access is amazing especially to swim with dolphins. No tour needed. Many great kayaks and water toys to use. Hot tub was an added perk. It would be nice to have a shady area to sit in during the day like the other units have. With downstairs unit it is either in sun or in unit. The view of ocean is amazing. Only drawback is the ceilings are quite low. Doorways too. If you are 6 foot or more it can be quite painful or awkward. It is a converted basement with very low beams. My 6 foot 3 inch son said though he wished it had higher ceilings he also would stay there again. On your way to the unit I would recommend stopping for food and supplies as it is a fun but long and winding road to the nearest grocery store or restaurant.

We stayed on the "budget rental" downstairs and it was awesome. I was amazed at how few bugs there were with how hot and humid it gets in Captain Cook. The amenities were great. If you come at the right time of year you can snorkel and kayak with the dolphins every morning. Such a beautiful spot, we will definitely be back!

This is the first mixed review we've ever had to write. I'll start with the good and then talk about the not so good parts. THE GOOD: The location is absolutely amazing. You're right on the water of Kealakua Bay, with waves crashing up against the rocks just 100 feet away from you. Rental of the unit allows free access to ocean kayaks that you can use to kayak the bay to snorkel, see pods of spinner dolphins, and, in the right season, humpback whales. The first trip out we took we had a pod of dolphins swim around us while we were snorkeling and whales surfacing several hundred feet away from us. It was INCREDIBLE. There is a magnificent cliff that serves as the backdrop as well. The property manager Amma is very attentive and is on site all day. She also gives great kayak instruction to make even beginners feel comfortable. So this is the good - absolutely magical location and free kayaking on the best snorkeling bay on the big island. THE NOT-SO-GOOD: This is the 'economy' unit and it really shows. Originally this was the open space under the house and they have built walls around it and furnished it. But the construction was very poorly done. When we moved in, there was a crack about a inch wide along the wall next to my bed, allowing the huge island cockroaches in. Amma had this sealed the next day, which made a big difference. In general, there were a lot of dead cockroaches - dead because of the poison they put out, but in the apartment because it is so poorly sealed overall. If you are tall like I am (6 feet), you need to constantly stoop so as not to hit your head on the beams. I got a very cramped neck and shoulders by the time we left. While the bugs and low ceilings were a problem, the unit was otherwise livable. SUMMARY: For this unit, you're really renting for the location and kayaks, not the unit itself. If you are squeamish about bugs, this might not be the best match for you. The cottage and upstairs are much nicer. We stayed in their cottage after this and LOVED it. I'd recommend the cottage over this unit.

We stayed here for a week and had the best time on the Big Island. The kayak launch is so handy as well as just being able to wake up and snorkel with dolphins and around the captain cook monument area. Amazing to wake up with the view outside our window. Perfect spot for our family of 4 with two older boys. We stayed downstairs with two big bedrooms, two bathrooms, nice kitchen and living area and five beds to choose from. Would recommend this property to anyone looking for the best the island has to offer.
