Elisabetta is a kind and friendly host. She was on holiday when we arrived, but made arrangements for a friend to meet us and came to see us as soon as she returned. The wifi was not working. Elisabetta and her brother worked hard to solve the problem (not their fault - the service provider). However, when the wifi worked, it was very slow. It was quicker to use 3G with the new EU data entitlement (while it lasts!). The apartment is very spacious with large bedrooms. It is the first floor of a very old building and rather dark. The position is wonderful, right on the picturesque little piazza (balcony) and almost next to the church. The church bell is loud, but it stops between 10.00 pm and 7.00 am. There are lots of sewing machines and a meat slicing machine in the apartment - can't think why. Massa Martana is a lovely little town and very convenient for seeing Umbria and its beautiful hill towns.
If you are an early morning person this place is perfect for you. Its surroundings are perfect for relaxing. If you like the sound of church bells then you will like it here. The bells start early in the monring and go into the afternoin on thr hour. The town has a lovely warm friendly feeling to it. We where visiting for a wedding near by and it was great to have the small supermarket across the road and the bar/restaurant near our accommodation. We didn't spend lots of time at thr accomadition but the time we did spend was lovely. Elisabetta was a fantastic host and answered any questions we had for our stay. As we didn't have a car Elisabetta was very kind to drop us off at the train station. We had a lovely stay.
Super raccomandato.
We spent two weeks in this wonderful house in Massa Martana. When we arrived, Elisabetta explained us everything in English and gave some very useful tips about what to see in the environments. We wanted to go to the gym in these two weeks and she showed us by car where to go. Her husband Marco came every day to fill up the wood for the stove. He doesn't speak English, but with hands, feet and a lot of laughing, we managed very well to understand each other. The house is centuries old and therefor has very thick walls, which is great to keep the house cool in summertime. It makes also that you have to put your phone near the window in order to have reach, but that is not really a problem. The house is quite big, has a nice atmosphere with decoration of antiques sewing machines and butchery appliances. You are at a piazza in the middle of this medieval village, which makes you feel as a part of the daily life. Opposite there is a bar with wonderful pizzas and nearby on walking distance there is a small supermarket. Marco and Elisabetta's butchery is also just 5 minutes walk away. it is not far from Assisi, Todi, Perugia and a lot of other wonderful places to visit in beautiful Umbria. Massa Martana and this house is an excellent point from which to visit it all. We can recommend it.
