Welcome to Bay Terrace, a leafy and historic neighborhood on the banks of the Napa River. My whole house is available; it sits on a hillside and has a peaceful backyard with apple, nectarine, plum, and pear trees, artichokes, and beehives. I live at the bottom of the hill and tend to the house and garden as needed.

House: The house has two real bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed, one with a double bed, plus a third smaller room which has a loveseat. There is a REI camping cot in the closet if you need a third bedroom for one person. The cot is not a "real bed," but it is comfortable and accommodates adults or kids. The house also has a sunny dining room, a bathroom with deep bathtub/shower, an upright piano, three decks, a fireplace, and a spacious, stocked kitchen (oil, spices, pots, pans, utensils provided). There is a small TV, Roku, central heating, and wireless internet. The house is spotlessly clean, and there are linens and towels ready for you. There is no air conditioning, but the house stays cool in summer if you close the front curtains and blinds when you leave for the day.

Location: Bay Terrace neighborhood sits at the foot of the Napa Valley, right where the Napa River meets the San Pablo Bay. If you like birds, this area is wonderful. We are right next to the San Pablo Bay Wildlife Refuge, and the wetlands all around Vallejo are a stop on the Pacific Flyway where birds rest on their annual migrations. Every February Vallejo hosts the Annual SF Bay Flyway Festival (look it up!) Last year, a pair of Great Horned Owls nested in the redwood tree next to my backyard, and I often see barn owls, raptors, woodpeckers, bluebirds, robins, hawks, and a lot of birds I can't identify around my backyard and in the neighborhood. The locals say that Rudyard Kipling lived here in Vallejo for a time, and he said that Vallejo had the best sunsets of anywhere he'd been in the whole world. I believe it.

Getting Around: The house is in a neighborly neighborhood. It's a 20 minute drive to Napa or Sonoma wine country, 20 miles (30 min) to Berkeley, and 30 miles (45 minutes with no traffic) to San Francisco. From the house, it's 1.5 miles to the Vallejo Ferry Terminal where there is ample parking ($5 for 24 hours) and you can take a 55-minute ferry or even faster bus directly to San Francisco. It's 10 minutes to the quaint town of Benicia which offers antiquing and more dining options, 12 minutes to Infineon Raceway, 5 minutes to California Maritime Academy and numerous historical museums, 10 minutes to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Amusement Park, and 5 minutes to Mare Island, the former Naval Shipyard. Mare Island is now home to Touro University Medical School, the USDA Forest Service offices, Godfather Vino Tasting Room, and St Peter's Chapel, the oldest Naval Chapel in the nation.

1. Cleaning fee: $45
2. No smoking inside.

You will have access to the whole house. It's all yours, inside and out.

I do not interact very much with my guests. I am usually available by phone or text if you need me, and I live and work close by, but I generally leave you to your holiday in peace! Some guests meet me because I stop by to take care of the trees in the backyard, but most guests do not meet me in person. If you can't reach me, I have a couple neighbors on stand-by who stand in for me when I'm out of town or unreachable for any reason.
Of course, if you WANT to meet me, I'm happy to come say hello!

There are great views of the bay in my neighborhood. If you don't mind hills, it's a great area for walks. I know many of my neighbors, and people really look out for each other here. Neighbors host regular happy hours and potlucks and get-togethers --it's a friendly place!

Unfortunately, there is not good public transit within walking distance. The ferry terminal and transit center are about 1.5 miles away, and because of the hills, you're best off driving and parking in the parking lot there. The parking fee is $5/day.

From the transit center, there is a $5 bus to the El Cerrito del Norte BART station. There are many buses that head up to wine country. The ferry goes to San Francisco and leaves about once an hour-- more often during rush hour.

Der Check-in ist nach 16:00.

No smoking in the house.
Pets may be okay. (Tell me a bit about them when you write.)

I expect guests to wash their dishes, pots, and pans at the end of their stay. No need to put them away -- just clean and in the drying rack or dishwasher is fine.

I'm a native Californian, and I grew up visiting my grandmother in Vallejo every summer. She would take me to San Francisco on the Baylink Ferry and to the Vallejo Farmers Market. The market still runs every Saturday morning, year round. After living in many other places, I came back to the Bay Area for the weather, the friendly people, and a fun job with a conservation organization. The music is great here: I like old time and bluegrass music in particular, and there are jams, festivals, and performances close by.

I am lucky to have stumbled upon this neighborhood when I moved to Vallejo: my neighbors are very friendly, and people look out for each other. Come check out this lovely corner of the Bay Area-- we are right in between wine country, the wildlife of the San Pablo Bay wetlands, San Francisco culture, and the East Bay food.
