Marc's apartment is a real work of art, which comprises different styles. We really loved the wall paintings, which depict mostly Saint-Petersburg views and thus enrich the atmosphere and the feeling of the city. The location is great, close to all landmarks and not far from the metro station. The window view is terrific, Saint Nicholas' Cathedral never ceases to impress. The apartment is very spacious, and there's a lot of light.
Marc is a wonderful and hospitable host, always responsive to our needs. Though, our needs were larger than the place could possibly enclose. The matter is, we were traveling with an infant, and this place is far from being perfect for a family with a baby. There is no elevator, so it's a little tough to carry the stroller up and down the large stairways of the old building. We were staying for quite a time, almost three weeks, to be precise, so we had a lot of stuff on our hands, both the baby stuff and our own. But unfortunately there is almost no space to keep all those things in, lack of wardrobe space, no chests of drawers at all, which of course made our lives a little bit messy. The floors and the doors were extremely squeaky, so it was hard to move around when the baby was sleeping. Kindly, Marc oiled the doors, but the floors were still very noisy.
There is also little problem with the appliances – we needed a microwave and an electric kettle for our convenience, but Marc gave us only a microwave due to the problems in the electrical system. The system got worse the day before our departure – it completely went down and we were left without electricity. It was extremely inconvenient as we had to pack our things and charge our devices and we also badly needed the Internet. Marc was away from the country at that moment, so his wife Olga was trying to solve the problem, but did it only late in the evening. So only when I gave her several phone numbers of electrical repair companies, the electricians came and solved the problem.
And one more thing, when we were renting this apartment, it was advertised as a big 2-bedroom unit and a two-floor studio, it was also shown in the pictures. It turned out that it was just 1 unit, Marc was staying in the studio himself. He let us stay there when he went away and before other tenants moved in for several days. This is completely fine with me, but I believe it should have been more fair and transparent.
All in all, the stay was good and everybody enjoyed it, though with an infant on your hands it's not very convenient.
