Glenn was an excellent host. Most particularly--and what I appreciated most--was that he was highly responsive. It happens that AirBnB's payment process could be better streamlined, but Glen was patient and we worked through this right off. We communicated while I was in transit and he was at Isla Vista home when I arrived, showed me the lay of the land and gave me what I needed to settle in.
This home - a side-by-side duplex has been generally used as student housing during the academic year; it being right next door to the University of California-Santa Barbara. And understanding this, I didn't have a problem with this not being the Holiday Inn. The place was kept clean; Glenn kept it up. There was a neighborhood band, but they were sensitive about the hours. What was a great surprise and utter delight was the good fortune of having roommates that were such a pleasure to spend time with. Kenny was a 20 something who was relocating back to this area and he's a very bright Renaissance guy. He explored the neighborhood and got us an invitation to the band's Friday party. Nick and Jasmine were also locating to the area and they were both energetic, playful and just plain good people. Jessica was there for just the weekend, and she too became part of this odd, happy, thrown-together family. Alex came late in my stay and again, great guy, with a great outlook. And given that I was there for a couple of weeks of research at UC-SB, it all worked out perfectly.
I got that this was the first summer that Glenn and the owner have let out rooms on a daily basis, so there were a few loose ends that as I raised them, Glen quickly looked after the concern. There could be a more thoughtful management of the shared refrigerator space, but you can see, this is not a major concern.
In conclusion, for the price it was an excellent value and you have a real partner in your host Glenn. If you're planning a UC-SB extended stay, this would be a fine choice.
