Beschreibung

Quiet country setting with no neighbors and a huge 4 bedroom house with games and toys ... very much like gandma's house with modern amenities. Fire pit, charcoal grill, porch swing, fruit trees like apples, berries and grapes.

Fly fish the fabulous Elk River and its back fork then come back to your stunning mountain cabin to crystal clean air and the best-tasting spring water on earth, and mountain-top views set within a gorgeous hardwood forest on 18 acres with no fencing. Lumber companies conveniently left a great 1 mile gravel road from the main highway 15 and the surrounding virgin forest creates utter privacy.

Summer sightings include deer and fawns, squirrels, birds and fields of butterflies. When our children were young they'd roof-watch the wildlife that didn't come into the clearing, and the on-site blueberries in summer and apples in the fall ensure bear and cub sightings nearby.

Only 45 minutes to Snow Shoe for high life, or about the same from Elkins. Wander the West Virginia-priced (inexpensive) antique shops with terrific finds, or find some weekend mountain music at the many heritage weekends, where relations near and far visit for a town family reunion.

Remind yourself and the kids how life was ''back when.''

The cabin (called a ''camp'' in the mountains) was lovingly hand-crafted from 26 kinds of timber by a master carpenter. There is central air, radiant heating if you'd rather, a grill and smoker, unlimited hard line calls, a new television with satellite, a washer/dryer/microwave, games, and plenty of books for reading during your stay.

Fly fishing, craft & artisan shows, mountain live music, hiking and ATV trails, snowboarding and cross-country as well as downhill skiing at nearby Snow Shoe, antiquing or quiet reading

I am available by email, hard line or cell phone and end my numbers when you get the key code. I don't call during your visit unless you ask ... ringing during your week of solitude and peace is really jarring! Feel free to use the hard line telephone but you may want to unhook ... and live longer.

We have one vacation neighbor besides the logging land that surrounds us.

You will want 4-wheel drive on mountain roads but West Virginians know how to plow and build safe roads for all weather. if you have driven the mountains in Europe that technology is clear here too.

We had a great stay here! It was nice to be able to disconnect and be so close to the river. We hiked right out the back door, shot our bows in the yard and laid in the sun in the hammock most the day!

From the day we first called to confirm our booking, Donna was incredibly helpful. When a bunch of "city folk" take a trip to the mountains, we need great directions and Donna certainly gave them. Her welcome letter was all-encompassing and incredibly informative. The property itself is absolutely breathtaking. We were lucky enough to see it on a beautiful, sunny day and on a real snow day. The mountains of West Virginia are unforgettable, and if you are looking for a place to experience the peace, beauty and serenity they have to offer--I would highly recommend this lodge. It is spacious, warm, welcoming, and Donna and David are wonderful, attentive hosts. It will be a trip you will never forget.

Not recommended for those with mobility issues of any kind. But the setting is lovely, private and peaceful. Front porch is spacious and dog-friendly.

We had an amazing time at the cabin and we will remember it for the rest of our lives. I proposed to my girlfriend on our 7 year anniversary on the big porch, overlooking the mountains. She said yes! The dive in is beautiful, the views are amazing. The same goes for the cabin. You can tell that this place has been enjoyed for a long time, you can feel it in the walls and grounds. It was raining when we first got in, and we enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to it fall through the leaves. The first morning, our anniversary, we woke up to a little snow! After bacon and eggs in the old cast iron skillet we took a walk and spotted a whole rafter of turkey in the side yard, and 2 whitetail. Webster is a very nice little town and a guy at ACE went out of his way to point us to a gentleman on our mountain with extra firewood. The Custard Stand and the little restaurant across the street from ACE were great. We hiked the trail to the fire tower the second day, and the views were beautiful too. We saw plenty more deer and a few more turkey on the way. We met the 'neighbor' (if you want to call her that, she's on the road but a few mins from the cabin and I guess doesn't live there as we only saw her once) Ms. Camille, who pointed us to the right trail. The property is isolated and there are no neighbors in sight, exactly what we wanted. Little cell service (also what we wanted), but there's a landline. The mounts on the walls were beautiful, especially the wildebeest! David must be a traveled hunter. The wood in the cabin is great, and the little touches really make it special. There are a few board games and plenty of good books for those rainy days or when the sun goes down (I recommend 'The Grizzly Book', had to buy it after we left). There's also a satellite tv, but who needs it?! That view from the porch swing and someone I love sitting next to me are all I ever need. It was a lot of fun exploring the woods and trails, seeing the old buildings like the little cabin from the 1800s. The last thing I'll mention is the toilet. It's great, don't worry at all. No smell whatsoever and no wasted water, no freezing pipes, and it's good for the environment. You can tell from this, the books, the mounts, that Ms. Donna and Mr. David have a great respect for the land and wildlife. Btw, the shower/tub is very big and nice. If you want to relax, get away, and just unplug for a while, I can't think of a better place. We drove almost 8hrs up and we will most certainly be coming back. You will not regret it. Thank you both for having us.
