A small, family-run, eco-guesthouse, where you can experience conscious community living in harmony with nature within a developing communal homestead that utilises permaculture design. We are 2 families who live off-grid on a sunny, peaceful hillside with stunning ocean and mountain views. We offer accommodation in simple wooden cabins that immerse you in beautifully lush, peaceful nature.
Coconut Cabin is the perfect location for a romantic getaway or nature-lover's adventure. Set on the outskirts of the Central Rainforest Reserve, you cannot help but relax to the sounds of parrots flying above, the hum of hummingbirds and the gentle crashing of distant ocean waves, as you breathe in the cool sea air, bask in the glorious sunshine and savour the wonderful scents of flowers and herbs. It is beautiful and very peaceful. I'm sure you will love your time spent here and make some very special memories!!
Local white cedar lumber sets a calming mood for this simple, cosy studio space with porch overlooking the bay at Castle Bruce beach. Inside contains a bed, shower, composting toilet (toilette chèche) and kitchenette area equipped with gas stove, shelf space and cookware. Perishable food items can be stored in the fridge in my house.
The water is sourced from a natural spring further up the mountain. This water is drinkable and feeds the sink and shower (which only has 1 temperature). Electricity is limited to energy efficient lights powered by solar panels on the roof. Electronic items can be charged in my house.

I live a pretty busy life maintaining my paradise home and nurturing the little people around here :-) but I do love to interact with guests where possible. There is a warm, welcoming family vibe here and we feel that Eden Heights is a cross between a bed and breakfast, a rural homestay and a wilderness retreat. We are currently in a transition to a very small homesteading community and so there are usually people around... Our aim is to develop a Permaculture and Homesteading research and development Institute to include educational programs (such as Permaculture Design Certification courses led by Papillon), community workshops, volunteer/worktrade initiatives, homeschooling activities, a recycling/re-purposing facility, and yoga and mindfulness retreats... much more too I'm sure. Please enquire directly or check online for details. Private massage treatments (US$60 / $150 EC) and yoga classes (US$40 / $100 EC) are available on site with 24 hours notice. Depending on our schedule, you may be able to join us for a dinner or two (if you are really lucky this could be a local cook-up sitting around a fire under the brilliant light of the full moon). I have a bunch of cool spots and beautiful hikes that I like to recommend to guests. The children like to show you local craft such as natural musical instruments, wood carvings and calabash bowls - which you can make for your own souvenir if available. Feel free to wander the gardens and take a dip in the small river pools bordering the property. You are also welcome to take the opportunity to reconnect with the earth and get your hands dirty in the garden - or even in the kitchen with a local 'ital' cooking lesson.
Breakfast is not included in the price, but can be added at your request at US$8 / $20 EC per person. I also serve dinners on the porch of my house, the price of which is US$15 / $40 EC. The breakfasts and dinners offered are made with strictly local ingredients, often from our organic gardens and food forests. Breakfast includes local fruits and juice, local coffee, bush tea or hot chocolate (cacao tea as it is known here!), cassava bread, plantains, omlette, bakes/flatbreads, or banana muffins. Either fresh coconut or almond milk is usually available (please request in advance if you can't do without cow's milk/cream in your coffee!) Dinner is normally vegetarian/ital style made with home- or locally-grown, seasonal produce. I try to get fresh fish if given enough notice.

If you would like to see some reviews from previous guests of our other accommodation, please look for the 'Kalinago Hut at Eden Heights' page, which can be found via my host page.
Rainy season is officially June-November but we can get occasional heavy showers at any time of the year. Please bring waterproof clothing and waterproof casing for your cameras, phones and other valuables.
Just to reiterate - we are a 20-25 minute walk uphill from the main road so it is wise to hire a vehicle if you do not want to make the walk. If I am around, I will be happy to give you rides up and down if car rental isn't possible for you.
Please don't smoke inside the cabin.
Please discard of waste and compost in the bins provided and close the lids.

Hi, I’m Sian (pronounced ‘Shaan’). I live with my lovely high-spirited 3 year old boy on the mountainside above the small, friendly village of Castle Bruce on the central east coast of Dominica, West Indies. I have been living in Dominica since 2011 and the beauty and wilderness of the island still takes my breath away... Dominica is a destination unlike any other, unspoiled and brimming with adventures waiting to be stumbled upon. I love to see people as enchanted by it as I am. I am living my dream and loving it. I care passionately for the natural environment and healthy living in harmony with the Earth and I also love to discover different cultures, customs and cuisines, but don't travel much at the moment… soon :-) My son and I are responding to a need and desire for communal living and with the love and support of a beautiful like-minded family, we are establishing an educational homesteading community from where we raise our children, grow organic food and research and develop solutions to modern problems. Papillon, Fatou and their 2 sons live in a gorgeous Kalinago style house constructed with all local and sustainably-sourced materials. Research at our place includes areas such as natural building, land regeneration, home-schooling and material-repurposing. Between us we have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a cow, not to mention divine friendship with unlimited lizards, birds, parrots and crabs. French is spoken here fluently (Moi, j’apprende…) and a massage therapist, yoga teacher and permaculture designer and instructor live here and are available for sessions (details in listing profile).
I have 2 cabins available to rent to travellers looking for a relaxing space in the wilderness where you can disconnect and power-down for a while. Where you have ample chance to reconnect with nature and hike along beautiful mountain trails through tropical forests to crater lakes, active fumeroles and crystal waterfalls, observe zandoli lizards scurrying up trees or squawking parrots flapping overhead and be mesmerised by spectacular moon rises over the ocean. Our vibe is more like a home-stay than a resort, somewhere you can experience simple rustic living in harmony with nature. Immerse yourself and witness the natural world unfolding around your private cabin. Feel welcomed in the sacred air of the garden and communal areas, which offer fruit, flowers, herbs, trees, and life at every turn.
My simple motto for life, 'Give what you can, receive what you need'.
