Our apartment is in downtown Reykjavik, a short walk to anything you could need. One block from Laugavegur, the main street, (just outside the "noisy" area) with transportation, restaurants, shops, museums, cafes, and bars - all within a few minutes! Hallgrimskírkja and Sundhöll (the oldest swimming pool, built in 1935) are all within walking distance.
Hlemmur, Reykjavik's main bus terminal and taxi hub, is just a 3-minute walk away.
If you are traveling with little ones, let us know if you will be needing "little people things" (toys, highchair, bedding).
VERY FRIENDLY AND HOSPITABLE OWNERS - SO PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK FOR ANYTHING! [You may have seen us on House Hunters International ;) ]
Look forward to seeing you in Iceland....
This really is a lovely apartment in downtown Reykjavik. Edythe and Valur provided lots of valuable information about restaurants and sights, as well as sending us the opening times for supermarkets and swimming pools during Easter - much appreciated! The location is within walking distance of everything and yet quiet at night. We would highly recommend staying here.
The apartment is wonderful! It is as beautiful as it looks on the pictures, and it has the perfect location. We really, really enjoyed staying there and felt totally at home.
An extra bonus was the apartment guide with a lot of useful information on opening times, restaurants, etc, and we really appreciated that Valur took the time to mark locations for us on a map when he showed us around the apartment.
We would love to come back and wholeheartedly recommend staying at this apartment.
I had an absolutely wonderful time at valur and edythe's place! Their apartment truly feels like a home and has everything you might need for a comfortable stay. It is cosy but uncluttered, which gives it great energy. I got warmly welcomed by valur, who gave me a quick tour and told me where to grocery shop and get the best pizza in town. Also, you receive a great list of good cafés, restaurants and things to do, which is most useful. Last but not least, Reykjavik's main street is just around the corner, and you'll find loads of places to eat out there. I had a wonderful stay and very warmly recommend valur's and edythe's home!
Edythe and Valur were very helpful. The apartment was just as it looked in the photos and description. Everything was clean and comfortable. It was convenient to have parking for the car and be able to walk downtown when we didn't want to drive. It was a very nice place.
Thank you for a great stay. The flat is so centrally located it was wonderful. A perfect amount of space for the three of us. We will definitely stay again when we return to Reykjavik.
Valur and Edythe have made for themselves a wonderful home in the very centre of town that was such a pleasure to share in for the few days we stayed in Reykjavik. The pictures do great justice to the apartment, which is the perfect cosy spot to spend an (unfortunately) rainy day or two. All the little quirks of this property really help to make it feel more like a home-away-from-home, which is something I quickly came to appreciate. The property has off-street parking [which can be a blessing in the area] that is easily accessible from beside the house.
It was a genuine pleasure to meet Edythe on the first evening. She welcomed us so warmly to the space and was very giving with information about the local area; about where to go for a coffee, where to have something to eat, and the quickest routes to all the key sights. I'm a little bit sad we didn't get the chance to catch up again later in the week as I feel her little family would have some great stories to share, but then again there's always time in the next little holiday...
I would thoroughly recommend Valur and Edythe's property as a place to make some Icelandic memories. Thank you again for letting my rag-tag bunch share your home. =)
This is a fantastic apartment in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. The hosts are wonderful and the apartment is very comfortable, with a large bathroom and kitchen, and combined dining room and living room. All the major sights are within just minutes of the apartment. I would highly recommend this place over any hotel. It is much bigger and much more value for the price. There is a grocery store and great restaurants all within a few blocks, yet the street is very quiet.
Edythe, Valur & the boys made our trip so very comfortable. Edythe met us at the apartment have us the keys & a few other handy tips. The apartment was beautiful & very comfortable & it was centrally located. Edythe & Valur nice enough to help us with storing some luggage before a late flight back to Edinburgh. A great place to stay in the heart of the city.
This is a very beautiful apartment in an old house and very central. It really is in the spirit of airbnb as in someones much loved home and not a service/holiday let. Everything perfect - beds comfy, kitchen well equipped, warm and also a good stock of DVD's (though we didn't actually have time to watch any!). Valur and Edythe (and little Ari and grandma) great hosts and happy to assist and really welcoming and friendly. (And free parking a real asset as parking a bit of a nightmare centrally)
What a wonderful place to stay with such a central location. Just around the corner you will find an affordable supermarket, coffee shops, shopping and wonderful views of the sea. Upon arrival Valur met us for check-in and explained what was nearby including some good recommendations. We loved having candles lit during the evening and watching the snow fall. Parking was not a problem and there was plenty of white stuff (aka snow) on the ground. A few tips: Try Icelandic Fish and Chips near the harbor (they have vegetarian options also), shop at Bonus and cook while enjoying a bottle of wine (that you purchased in the airport), live like a local. :-)
