Nature-lovers wanted! Nestled against protected lands in Swannanoa, NC, Dancing Leaf Ridge is a warm, spacious, comfortable and family-friendly mountain retreat. Private, yet just 25 minutes drive to downtown Asheville, less to the town of Black Mountain, and a mere five miles from the beautiful pastoral farm campus of Warren Wilson College. An easy drive to Biltmore Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway...In short, DLC is the perfect place for your mountain getaway.

Die Unterkunft
* "Health Matters" | Your health matters to us! In the interest of helping to guard the health of our guests and staff during the ongoing pandemic, we are currently following strict AirBnB and CDC guidelines for cleaning and disinfection within this cottage, as well as implementing a generous four-day window between guests' stays as an extra precaution. Wishing you the best of health, Your DLC Hosts.

In inspiring natural setting, original art by local artists graces the walls of Dancing Leaf Cottage. Porches––both front and back––invite dining or lounging. In the all-one-level home with its open great room, the pet and kid-friendly stone fireplace is the coziest gathering spot, while the farmhouse table is the just-right place for your family to pull up their ladder-back chairs for some local farm-to-table victuals and real conversation. Outdoor dining in your plans? On the back porch, there's a table with eight chairs and there's a grill out back, too.

Should you prefer to eat in, the kitchen is well-appointed––with stove, large fridge, dishwasher, plus sufficient tableware and cookware––but do remember that Asheville has some of the best food in the country! Restaurant recommendations available. And no need to buy drinking water, by the way; clean, fresh-tasting mountain well water is filtered and "on tap" in the kitchen.

Clean house

Naturally! A five-star cleaning service––using all-natural green products––keeps the cottage interior pleasantly clean and fresh. | *Your health matters to us! As indicated above, we have revised our cleaning protocol during this health crisis to comply with strict AirBnB and CDC disinfection recommendations for the protection of both guests and staff alike.

Calling All Artists...

Bring your art supplies, because Dancing Leaf Ridge is also an artist's retreat, one in which you and fellow artists can draw or paint to your heart's content. A large drafting table is at your disposal in the studio.

Games and Fun

Not an artist? Raining out? No worries: the studio doubles as a games room, with an air hockey table, poker chips, and a stack of board games––and with the extra futon couch and a games table where you and friends can lounge, it's a great family hangout, too.

And when the rain goes, leaving the world sparkling, you can gather round the fire pit for a marshmallow toast, or just knock off a few games of horseshoes or frisbee before dinner. It's all good!

Canine Family Members?

We love dogs, and friendly dogs with up-to-date veterinary records are welcome here at DLC. Pet beds and non-tip bowls are at your pet's service.

Just note there is an extra flat fee of $15 per dog per day (2 dogs maximum), and you agree to pay any additional charges for any damage your dog(s) may cause. No dogs on upholstered furniture or beds, please. For your pet's comfort and security, we do also ask that you don't leave your pet alone for more than a few hours and crate your dog(s) indoors when you're not there. Outdoors, due to the occasional presence of wildlife and/or other neighborhood pets, dogs must be on leash and supervised at all times. (Basically we just want your dog(s) to stay safe so that even the furry member(s) of the family can enjoy the vacation, too.)

Sleeping at DLC

Cozy bedrooms––all with walk-in closets––and a master bedroom with ensuite bath are just where you'll want to catch some zzzs after a long day of exploring the area.

The bedrooms (yes, we named them––just for fun):
• "Wildflower" is the large master, featuring a king-size bed, spacious walk-in closet, and ensuite bath;
• "Evergreen" features a traditional queen-size four-poster bed and walk-in closet with dresser;
• "Firefly" offers a twin-size bed suitable for any age, and low kid-size bunk beds (the top bunk is intended for one child aged 6 - 10) should suit younger guests. A play yard and folding stroller, are tucked into this bedroom's walk-in closet along with a dresser.
• A comfortable hall bath accommodates guests staying in the latter two rooms.

Prefer other sleeping options? The "studio/games room" also has a futon which converts into a double bed. Two single camp-style cots are also available upon request.

Youngest Guests (Babies/Toddlers)

We're young-family friendly at DCL, and designed Dancing Leaf to accommodate families flying in from out of state. A pack-n-play plus a folding stroller are in the kids' room closet, while a restaurant-style wooden highchair awaits yummy messes in the dining area.

Laundry

Dancing Leaf also has a well-appointed laundry room with commercial Maytag washer/dryer, free for your use. You'll also find an ironing board and iron there. We stock enough soap and supplies for a couple loads of laundry.

Tech (or Tech-free!) Accommodation

In the kitchen, DLC offers a Wifi radio so you can tune to SiriusXM stations and over 16,000 streaming radio stations from around the world.

And while DLC does have basic internet (and a 40"TV/Bluray DVD, too), if you're just coming for the tech, you might look elsewhere: DSL bandwidth up here on the ridge is basic and slooow (1.5 mbps down, usually just fast enough to stream a video...if you're doing nothing else!) Let's just say, it's ideal for those who are ready to kick the phone to the curb for a while and watch the real sun set.

Feeling disconnected? No worries: DLC's home phone service allows you to call any number free of charge within the US. We provide this service for safety and convenience because some mobile phone carriers do have hit-and-miss coverage here (Verizon Wireless is the exception, with solid service).

And if––as some moms and dads request––you'd prefer your family to experience a totally offline retreat, we can even remove the wifi modem prior to your arrival. Yes...we get it.

Ridge-top Woodland Surroundings

The relaxed mountain setting, at 3300' above sea level and adjoining a conservation easement with Pisgah National Forest and the Asheville watershed, is exceptionally private, ideal for those who want to reconnect with nature, family and friends, as well as themselves. While there are other people––friendly and helpful neighbors––up on the mountain, they are a brief hike away, so your privacy is assured.

Guests and their pets will need to feel "at home" in the heart of nature to enjoy this setting. But what a delightful escape: there's plenty of room to run and play in the wide yard and nearby woods, and clear seasonal streams to explore.

So, go ahead: take the switchbacks and ascend the steep and curvy mountain road to the sweetest spot on the mountain––no 4x4 required.

Season-by-Season Forecast on the Ridge

In the spring, flame azaleas and dwarf iris bloom; in the summer, blackberries ripen, and you'll be lulled to sleep by crickets and katydids, and charmed by the ethereal glow of fireflies.

In the autumn, a variety of mushrooms spring out of the velvety green moss, while hickories and poplars light up the woods with a truly rarified golden haze.

Even winter here on the mountain is stunning with its snows, soft mists, hoarfrosts, and cold occasionally so brisk that it curls the leaves of the rhododendrons.

Wild animals, like turkeys, hawks, deer, and an occasional black bear, do saunter through the clearings; such sightings are an exciting part of this natural retreat (but do respect our wildlife and keep a safe distance, please).

At dusk in nearly any season, the faint fluttering call of a screech owl or throaty hoot of a great horned owl will announce that night is falling over your peaceful retreat. And don't forget your binocs or telescope: you'll just never believe how many stars fill this nighttime sky...

So, it's clear: this is a calm, creative retreat, where you can enjoy the simplest of life's pleasures––like relaxing in the hammock, far away from everyday distractions. Just the place, in short, to nourish your nature-loving soul.

Go ahead...make yourself at home on Dancing Leaf Ridge.

Asheville offers world-class restaurants, local organic food markets, mom-and-pop owned micro breweries, and wonderful diverse entertainment, as well as a vibrant, eclectic downtown. Black Mountain offers a charming small town sidewalk experience with shops, restaurants, cafés, a museum, plus a fun Saturday morning tailgate market. Hiking, biking, climbing, rafting and kayaking, as well as scenic drives and hikes along the breathtaking Blue Ridge Parkway, are all nearby.

Not to miss:

• The beautiful and walkable NC Arboretum, only 24 minutes' drive.

• The family-friendly NC Nature Center, a zoological park only 22 minutes from your door; see wildwnc.org

• The tallest mountain in the eastern half of the US––Mount Mitchell––is just over the ridge as the bird flies, and can be easily accessed from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Limited mobility? - Asheville's River Arts District, where working artists often open their studios to guests; visit riverartsdistrict.com

- Theatres––like Diana Wortham Theatre, ACT, or the Flat Rock Playhouse––music festivals (like LEAF), and concerts, art galleries, museums, crafts exhibits, sporting events, nature preserves, and other great experiences abound in the Asheville area, just waiting to be discovered. (Visit

Good to meet you! We are a family of four who love to travel and meet new friends from all over the world. We love hikes and picnics, mountain biking and exploring, the arts and museums, farm-fresh foods, reading great books, and learning new things. We also own rental property, and understand the importance of respecting others' hospitality: when we stay with you, we treat your home as if it were our own and leave it as we found it (or even a bit cleaner)! And when we host, we do our best to treat others as we'd like to be treated––thoughtfully and kindly.
