This whole situation with Grace was unfortunate. I was very clear in my earlier messages about needing to know if she had additional people given my recent experiences with guests but she never informed me. In addition, dogs are never allowed without prior permission and payment and that is clear in my house overview. I want to make sure guests are clear on rules with dogs and want to make sure that dogs are up to date on flea and tick medications so that we don't have issues for future guests.
The reason I have outdoor security cameras is certainly not to watch people and the cameras don't even record. It's because I live 2 hours from the house and they are for security purposes. I also provide items to cover/shield the camera during a guest's stay.
I pride myself on excellent communication with guests, which is one reason I am a Superhost and is why she received messages before I had to go through Airbnb to resolve issues I had with her stay. I would prefer to deal with guests directly and not go through Airbnb.
Addressing the status of the house, there was sticky food (like cheese) all over the carpet, the kitchen was a mess with super sticky gross countertops and we had to rewash all the used dishes. Her dog peed on a bathroom rug, which was left, along with a urine stained towel. We don't typically count towels, but my house cleaner was shocked at the fact that over 20 towels were used over 2 days and she had come to the house expecting to clean up after two people, not four+ people and a dog.
Bottom line - my house cleaner has never seen the house left in such poor shape by any other guests (even when 10 plus people have a party at the house). She had to make several trips to clean the house to address all the food stains, grime and stickiness on the countertops, rewashing of all the dishes and dealing with the piles of laundry.
Grace and I clearly have different approaches to communication and expectations as an Airbnb host and guest. There is a level of trust when I am allowing people to stay in my home. I thought all my prior communication was clear and that we were on the same page , but unfortunately this was just not a good experience for either one of us. - Elizabeth
