Kilmarnock Farm offers guests unusual privacy and tranquility but also easy access to urban amenities. A "wedge of green" between the densely populated "corridor cities" along the I-270 High Technology Corridor, the village of Boyds has considerably more parkland and green space than either residential or commercial property. Residents and tourists alike enjoy bicycling along rustic rural roads, fishing and boating on the lake, hiking the many woodland paths, photographing the wide variety of waterfowl and bird population, deer hunting in season, and other activities inspired by the natural environment. Nutzerprofil von Marilyn

I live in the small village of Boyds, Maryland, less than forty miles from the White House and the hustle and bustle of our nation's capital, on the shores of Little Seneca Lake and Black Hill Regional Park, where I offer travelers a variety of accommodations in family owned properties. I am a retired university professor, arts administrator, and professional musician who performed internationally and championed the works of living composers. After a hiatus of almost 25 years during which I cared for loved ones who suffered debilitating illnesses, I am now beginning to compose again and to teach piano and voice in my home studio. I was a founder of Strathmore Hall Arts Center and Foundation, InterArts Projects, the DeReggi InterArt Ensemble, and the Sistrum New Music Ensemble, and was honored with the Rufus Putnam Endowed Chair at Ohio University. As a vocalist, composer, and instrumentalist, I received hundreds of grants and commissions, and performed at festivals and concert halls both in the United States and Europe. I studied music in Paris, my husband was a Frenchman from the Cote d'Azur, and my son-in-law is from Normandy, so I quite naturally love to travel to that part of the world. I share ownership of the Boyd Bluff Farm in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, overlooking the mighty Mississippi River, and reunite with my extended family there from time to time. When our own three children had reached adulthood, my husband and I became surrogate parents of four children from Bali, and I co-directed the Bali in Boyds project and the Whratnala Gamelan over a period of six years. I have not yet traveled to Bali, but that is on my 'Bucket List'. My husband, a research physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology for more than thirty years, passed away in 2006. He was the best person I ever knew, and the love of my life. Immediately following his death, I was unable create music or art but found solace in the cultivation of native plants, heirloom vegetables and herbs. At one time, I grew more than 100 varieties of herbs, and am just now beginning to resurrect the garden and to craft products from its bounty. Our two sons and our daughter grew up in Boyds, where they and their families have remained to date, all living within a mile or two from me. Each family member contributes his or her unique talent and skill to our Mini-Mountain Enterprises. We enjoy sharing our homes and doing whatever we can to make our guests' visits memorable and enjoyable. In addition to enjoying the peace and quiet of country life, fishing and boating on the lake, hiking the many trails, and observing the plentiful wildlife, many of my guests visit the monuments, museums and concert halls of Washington DC, nearby state and national parks, and he many historical and cultural sites in the Mid-Atlantic Region, all within an hours' drive, including Gettysburg and the Amish country of Pennsylvania, Harpers Ferry in West Virginia, Baltimore, Frederick and Annapolis in Maryland, or Alexandria and Mount Vernon in Virginia.
