Comfort, Charm & Convenience on a quiet road that feels like country.
12 minutes from downtown. Relax into 2 bedrooms, living room & sofa bed w/wood stove, dining room, vintage kitchen & designer bath with 3 decks to the garden, hot tub, or bbq.
Here's a unique place to find yourself; a beautiful peace of countryside located 12 minutes S.W. of downtown Portland, Oregon. There's a a bit of old world here; a sweet retreat from the hipness & culture we love about Portland.
The home is nestled in the quiet & beauty of mature gardens with an old forested park down the lane. You can enjoy hikes through the woods, over the stone arched bridge, or find refuge here, indoors & out. There's some good art and great books in every room.
You've 3 of your own entrances into the garden, with decks.
The beds have been custom built into window nooks; not standard sizes, w/ mattresses made of latex, foam, feather & cotton combinations. One bed is slightly larger than a 'double' and the other is wider & longer than a twin. Couples like the coziness. Others relish the solitary comfort. Both beds are elevated so this could be an issue for some folk. Sheets are good cotton, blankies are down, wool or silk. Colors are rich and calming.
The bathroom floor is heated beneath the smooth blue pebbles; the shower is built for two.
Vintage kitchen is updated & easy. But why cook? I'll provide easy breakfast fixins'; you can make your coffee, tea, or juice in the Vita Mix.
The wood stove can be a warming comfort any season.
There's a fire pit down by the grapes, and the hot tub is beneath the timber bamboo. Chickens are clucking across the creek. Our old dog Joey just watches them now.
Its probably best to have a car to get here; frequent public transport is a 15 minute walk away; the bus up at the corner only comes once an hour and the winding roads don't have bike lanes, but I have biked to town in 30 min. There's an organic grocer up at the corner and a few restaurants nearby but not of much note for a foodie; for that you've got to go to town!

Very little, if this is your preference. If we are on the property, it's on a separate level apartment, so sometimes we only see guests in passing.
Weitere wichtige Infos
The home is on a hill and there are steps and stairs to negotiate.
The beds are custom and two are elevated in height - this could be an accessibility concern. The fold out couch is standard height. The Rosie Room bed is higher than standard and 6" wider than a full double.
The 'Captain's Bed' is a custom bed set in a window alcove; it is wider and longer than a standard twin and is up three steps in height.
We ask that guests be mindful of the soundscape as it is an old house; voices can carry. This is not a great party house; loud outside voices echo in the canyon and can be disruptive to the neighbors.
When things are left behind we can mail them to you if you wish and deduct the cost from the security deposit.
Wednesdays are blocked on the calendar for cleaning but can be adjusted w/ some discussion...
Be considerate. Be Kind. Clean up.
Sorry, don't bring pets;
the old dog here is stingy w/ his turf.
No big parties.
It's OK to smoke outside.
Quiet after 10.

Hospitality comes naturally to us. We've come to learn that our most enjoyable guests enjoy taking care of themselves--and cleaning up after themselves. We love the simplicity, comfort and beauty of our home place, and we welcome you to find magic in the ordinary. The guest rooms are on a separate floor from our living spaces, with 3 entrances to the garden. The garden is large & lush, with meandering paths and private places to be alone or together. It's quiet here; the air is fragrant and full, with bird songs, creek sound, and honey bees. He is a farmer and I'm a psychotherapist. I see possibility and he likes hard work. We've been a good team; having found this crooked old house on a trash dump creek 20 years ago; we've cared for and cultivated what has become a very special place. We thrive on good conversation, food, music, books, art, wine, dance, & laughter. We also like our privacy, and the structure of the house provides plenty of room to choose that. You can choose solitude or conviviality here as you like. It's a beautiful place to gather with a small group of friends if they like to talk softly or go away by 10 pm. Sound carries through the floors, so there's headphones to wear if you want to blast the stereo or watch a movie late. The TV isn't hooked up; it's good for DVDs and maybe Netflix. There's some real food in the kitchen, fresh sheets on the beds, good towels, toiletries, espresso & tea. Namaste.
