Thank you for your very nice remarks about the house: that it was "beautifully clean", the space "indisputably very nice", the beds and linens were "hotel quality", and that it was "extremely quiet". My other guests have also been very enthusiastic about these things, and they are why I consistently get "5 star ratings" and have achieved "Super Host" status.
So I must confess that I was very surprised by your written remarks and star ratings on my place. Candidly, they were very low and completely inconsistent with all my other reviews. I take great pride in my home (which you noticed) and make every effort to ensure my guests have a perfect stay. I'm sorry that was not your experience and I would like to remark on a few things in detail:
Regarding the cats, when I initially wrote my airbnb listing (almost a year ago) I expected them to be shy and stay away. As it turns (Website hidden by Airbnb) of them (Boo) seemingly loves having visitors, and she has been frequently mentioned in past reviews as a big positive about my place! Regardless, I will take your suggestion and advise guests to close their bedroom doors. I have also revised my listing to take out any language about shyness (which clearly no longer applies). However, may I suggest that in the future you don't choose airbnb's with cats?
In terms of the shared space...maybe you thought you were renting entire house/apt versus private rooms? It clearly states in my listing that the kitchen/entrance are (Website hidden by Airbnb) I'm confused by your remarks? My house-sitter (Joe) told me that outside of helping you unload your luggage, and giving you his parking space, that he barely saw you...that he was upstairs in the "host space" the entire time, save for a few visits to the kitchen.
I would also like to apologize for the confusion about breakfast. As I explained in my private email to you, I haven't offered breakfast for more than 6 mos. It is no longer mentioned in my airbnb listing and was not part of your reservation confirmation. That said, my guest/guide book here at the house did still have a line item stating that "breakfast comes with your room, please help yourself to cereal, etc...". Not removing that was a minor oversight on my part and I've since corrected it. But, since that was disappointing to you, I've just issued you a generous $50 refund to cover your costs for (cereal/toast) over the two days.
I suspect that the main problem you had was price...and that my house was not really affordable for your family? Perhaps you booked it impulsively and went over the budget you set for other spots? Or maybe you are new to airbnb and don't know that many hosts determine their pricing by person? Value is something we each get to determine on our own, but I can assure you that my prices are very good for this part of Los Angeles (one of it's most exclusive neighborhoods), for two bedrooms with a private bathroom, and for such a high quality experience (walk to beach, beautiful decor, sheets, robes, firepit, etc). And perhaps also consider that I actually allowed you to have 5 guests (my max is 4) and did not charge you for one of your children. So in reality, your deal was better than most...even before the refund on breakfast.
I know you stayed with me on the tail-end of a long trip, so surely you and your husband were on edge after traveling with 3 small children. As a parent, I know that is difficult. Thanks again for your suggestions about the cats and for finding my binder oversight.
