Great place! Cathy and Charlie are awesome, so helpful and sweet. The place has everything one can ask for!!! Not too far from town and the metro.

My daughter and I had great stay at Cathy's place. Cathy and Charlie were excellent hosts, easy-going and very available yet unobtrusive. The apartment was accurately described. There was much to do in the area and a nice walking/running trail (Sligo Creek) nearby. Charlie even let us compost in his compost bin! Would stay again.

Thank you so much, Cathy, for making us feel comfortable and welcome on our wedding weekend. The home and garden were so perfect, and we appreciate all the small details that made our stay that much more pleasant.

It's hard to write a review of Cathy's place without sounding over the top. Basically, this is an English basement with an exit to the back of the house & parking area. That doesn't tell the entire story, however. The back of Cathy's house is a glorious garden. There are three parking spaces, one for guests, and it can be a little tight but I never had a problem with my Honda Civic (five-point rather than three-point turns took care of it; I never had to back out onto the street). There's easy access to the unit, which comprises a space with a queen-sized bed (very, very comfortable), an over-stuffed chair which I loved, a couple of short storage chests, a desk & rolling steno chair, a bedside table, a couple of table lamps, and a floor lamp. There's also an overhead light. The kitchen is compact, but filled with everyone you might want to make a real meal: refrigerator, induction hot plate, microwave/convection oven, electric teakettle, coffee pot, cooking pans & instruments, plates, cups, etc. Good to know: all the instructions are there, too, along with basic ingredients such as ice cubes, coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, butter, water, salt & other spices. There's a nice bathroom with extra supplies & a shower that has a good supply of hot water at a really satisfying pressure. Lots of extra towels - and a heat lamp, which I loved. In the back of the unit is another carpeted room with a dressing area (and tallboy dresser), wall mirror, lots of hangers, rollaway bed, extra bedding, and the washer & dryer. You can walk to Silver Spring metro station, but I always took the bus (the stop is about 1/4 mile from the house, if that far, and frequent buses). Use the (URL HIDDEN) site for metro & bus trip planning (there are other WMATA apps, too, but that is the one I used most). If you have a car, I recommend the Woodside Diner, which is perhaps 5 minutes drive & has outstanding hash & eggs (that's how I judge a real diner). Also, check out Republic in Takoma Park ($21 set lunch menu with fabulous calamari). For groceries, there's Whole Foods - and Snider's (I love Snider's - it's across Georgia Ave from Woodside Diner). Whole Foods doesn't sell wine; Snider's does. You can drive to either in under five minutes. Even if you don't have a car (you don't need one when you're staying at Cathy's place), you can find anything you want/need in Silver Spring, including lots of local and chain restaurants and (my downfall) a really good used book store at the Friends of the Montgomery Library bookstore (there's also one in Rockville, which is approximately 10 minutes' drive). The Montgomery County liquor store is right there, too: park on Roeder behind the one at Colesville Road & Fenton, or get off at the Spring Street bus stop. The Whole Foods is a couple of minutes'...

Enjoyed staying here. Place was cute and clean, close to downtown silverspring. Parking was a little inconvenient b/c the drive way was narrow. Didn't get to meet Cathy but Charlie was a great host. Will definitely stay here again.

This was an ideal place to spend a month for my radiology conference (AIRP) in downtown Silver Spring. It was perfectly located - a short, safe walk to the downtown area and Silver Spring Metro station (Red line), but nice and quiet in a safe residential area. I never felt unsafe while walking to and from my conference, as a female traveling alone. I also had no problems getting around without a car. The apartment itself is so comfortable and thoughtfully furnished, like many other guests have commented on. Especially loved the heated sun lamp in the bathroom, the convenient in-apartment washer and dryer, electric teakettle, and plentiful storage cabinets and hooks. WiFi was fast and worked great. The hosts maintain a beautiful garden and gazebo in the back, and there is also the Sligo Creek Trail close by which was a great place to take walks on the weekend. Charlie and Cathy were so welcoming and kind; great hosts and such nice people. I would 100% recommend staying here for a cozy, comfortable, quiet stay.

Antwort von Cathy:
Your observations are very kind, Jane. You know, the tea kettle was suggested by one of our guests as were the extra hooks by another. And it is nice to have that sun lamp in the winter when you come out of the shower. Thanks for letting us know!

I'm a residential landscape designer who lives quietly with my sweetheart, Charlie. Charlie is an artist who can fix anything. We are gardeners and sailors who like to read and attend theatre and dance performances as well as movies.
My bio photo was taken in the "I Dream of Jeanie" bottle created by an artist friend. You, too, can arrange to use the bottle for your next event.
My new mantra is "Assume Good Intentions." Life is better that way, yes?
