Located in one of the nicest areas in town with a genuine village-like feel, this apartment located one block away from the main metro line is walking distance from some of the city's top bars/restaurants. Comfy interior with workspace.

This apartment is a comfortable, modern place to stay in the heart of Providencia, a block from the most important metro line and within walking distance of many of the city's most popular bars and restaurants. I am a real person with a day job who is an expert on Santiago and I can help with you with tips and advice about the city (and about Chile). Having a desk the apartment is also an ideal location for travelers on a working holiday.
The Manuel Montt area of Providencia is an elegant neighborhood with old fashioned shops from the 1960s and 1970s and is safe at all times of day. The immediate area has become a fashionable to dine without getting the noise and crowds associated with Bellavista. Within a few blocks you can eat Irish, Catalan, Belgian, Spanish, Japanese and French cuisine! We have an Irish Bar two blocks away, the fashionable Liguria Bar two blocks away, two theaters on the same block, metro station a block away, 24-hour all nighter stores, a gym and a riverside park fashionable with joggers. And yet it's quiet at night!

The building was completed in 2010 and the one-ambience living room + kitchen have been decorated in a modern style. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes herbs and spices so you can cook without having to buy everything. We have the lovely Providencia food market a few blocks away. The bedroom comes with an ample supply of bedclothes and towels should you be planning a longer stay. The flat is ideal for a couple with dining area for two.
When you get here the wine rack is full and there even a couple of whites in the fridge. You just pay for what you use and at it's priced at reasonable rates.

I will normally wait for you in the apartment with the keys, although it could be my associate Teresa, if I am not available. Please contact me directly for the best advice about the city and about travel in Chile. I do not have a rigid check in and check out system, I try and work around peoples schedules. Please let me know what time your flight arrives, or what time you expect to arrive in the city. And the same information for your departure. Many Thanks!!

The neighborhood has everything at hand. Old shops, metro station, buses, great little bars and restaurants (I have Irish, Thai, Catalan, Uruguayan, Belgian, Chilean, French all within two blocks!!). We even had a theater a block away, and ice cream parlor from the 1950s. You can walk to two top restaurants -- Astrid y Gaston and Aqui Esta Coco, and also to the very popular Liguria tapas bar just a block away. What more can I say?

(1) GO UP SAN CRISTOBAL HILL! Going up to the Virgen as locals call it give you a 360-degree panoramic view of the city and the nearby Andes mountains. You can take the funicular train from Bellavista (a great place for lunch or dinner afterwards) or you can cycle or even walk up (access roads from Pedro de Valdivia Norte or Bellavista).

(2) SEE THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE The palace is open to the public and it’s worth around inside the central patio to see the guards in their uniform and the site of the palace that was bombed in 1973 in Chile’s military coup. This is an activity that can be easily combined with seeing other sights in the downtown area.

(3) VEGA MARKET + MERCADO CENTRAL The Vega is a sprawling food market on the north side of the Mapocho River. I recommend walking there from downtown, just get immersed in a vibrant market life that is difficult to find in other parts of the city. There are some nice little eateries (just go where there are lots of people — very cheap home made cooking). When returning visit the Mercado Central and see the fantastic array of Chile’s fish and seafood. Unfortunately most of the restaurants in the Mercado Central are touristy and low quality — Donde Augusto, the biggest place, is OK without being wonderful.

(4) MERCADO DE LOS DOMINICOS Easily accessible as it’s right on the last stop of Line 1 (Metro Los Dominicos) this medium and high end artesanal market is actually a really nice spot to walk around and get away from the pulse of the city. There are some nice little restaurants where you can sit outside and breathe the mountain air and you’ll probably walk away with a couple of nice momentos from Chile

(5) PIRQUE — CONCHA Y TORO VINEYARD, VAQUITA ECHA RESTAURANT — Concha y Toro vineyard is located south of the capital. It has beautiful century-old gardens that can be visited as part of a wine tour. Concha y Toro now has a restaurant but just down the road there is also a very typical Chilean restaurant called Vaquita Echa that is quite pleasant and a big wind down from the city (I recommend going on a quiet day quality of service suffers on busy days (i.e. weekends + public days). There are numerous tours, and you can hire a car. To do this on the cheap you can go to Metro Puente Alto and take a taxi (or a colectivo if you Spanish is good — private cars that take a number of passengers) to Concha y Toro, and maybe even arrange with the taxi driver to wait for you.

I strongly recommend tour agency La Bicicleta Verde for guided tours in Santiago, nearby vineyards and Valparaiso. Please see their website for more details, and please tell them that you were sent by Matt Craze for special attention! They are a good bunch of guys with tours in English and Spanish and in particular they have a great day out at Concha y Toro vineyard where you can roam the estate on bicycle!! They also have an actual office in Valparaiso and they know the place inside out.

The apartment is one block away from the main metro line in the city. There are lots of buses. You can get downtown in 10 minutes using the metro. And to the uptown financial district, also in 10 minutes.

For excursions in and around Santiago I recommend getting in touch with Cristian Contreras at InTours Chile. Cristian speaks Spanish, English and German and is a fun guy, he's just come back to live in Chile after spending several years living in Munich. Get in touch with him through or call him on +

A note on safety. Santiago in general is a very safe city, and violent crime is not common. You do have to be alert with pickpockets in busy areas. Many Airbnb apartments are located in the downtown area -- while this is an area that has improved a lot in recent years -- many streets in the area are still dimly lit and some are a bit edgy at night. My neighborhood located in Providencia is very safe -- we have slightly better lighting and because of its popular bars and restaurants there are people milling around at all times, which increases the sense of safety. Santiago, and indeed most South American cities, tend to be noisier than North America and Europe. Luckily the apartment block is located on a quiet street, but you will often hear late night revelers -- I think my best advice is just go with the flow -- when in Rome!!

Please use Airbnb for all initial correspondence. I advertise the apartment as a non-smoking apartment, but I don't really have a problem smoking on the balcony as long you close the doors. All food stored in the cupboards, and things like tea and coffee can be used freely.

Matthew was in touch with us throughout the process and was very helpful in figuring out how to get to apt from the airport. In spite of his living in Chile, he's actually from the UK so speaks English! (I embarrassingly sent him poor messages in Spanish until I met him). He met us in person at the apartment and gave us the low down of the surrounding area. Was super helpful and friendly. Apartment was located perfectly in the providência neighborhood. Very clean and comfortable. Had a great time in Santiago. Thanks!
