More than just a place to sleep! The tiny Victorian village of Karenville is an experience! This "Village" in the country is charming and off the grid. Eat in the "cafe" relax in "the square" then retire to your own private "Cool'r Cottage" that sleeps one or two ifyou snuggle.
Most of my Karenville sites (except My Cabin and the Hotel which have heat) are now closed for the winter until sometime in April. However if the weather is unusually nice and/or you are feeling especially hardy contact me and I can open a site (tiny home) for you. Please feel free to browse through the Karenville sites below and to make future plans and dreams. Thankyou Karen

I started building Karenville about ten years ago (it's my hobby). I had no idea it would ever become an Airbnb or even more, become this popular. I built it for my own enjoyment. And oh how I enjoy it! Even more now that it's an Airbnb.
Guests who enjoy themselves most, book more than one night. Please, for your enjoyment and ours, consider booking more than one night when possible. To further encourage multiple nights I have added a one time check in fee of $10 (Airbnb calls it a cleaning fee). What I hear most from my guests is, " I wish I could stay longer in this magical place".
The tiny Victorian village of Karenville is totally off the grid (I have been living electric free for over 20 years). We also get our water the old fashioned way, from the well or from rain barrels. Most people are surprised how easy and comfortable it all seems.
This tiny "home" I built and call the "Cool'r Cottage". I built it as an interesting challenge to and for myself. Wait till you see it and hear the story!!! It's windows look east out onto wide open fields and hills. You will most likely wake to a rising of the sun and bird songs. It is a tiny yet roomy "cottage" with a twin size bed that sleeps one person or two if you like to snuggle. It has a single bed, a closet and not much more. But not to worry, Karenville has lots of space. Although there is no heat in this cute little cottage, it is well insulated to keep you warm when it is cool and cool when it is warm. Bring your own food to cook in the K-Ville "cafe" if you like. We also have two outdoor showers. One is inclosed and the other is open to the sky. The clean composting toilet is often a pleasant surprise. Some people have even commented that it is their favorite building. All of Karenville, especially the "Cool'r Cottage", is something like camping only much more "cool".
Also please carefully read the house rules especially if you smoke or have pets.

The "Cool'r Cottage" is a private cottage on the edge of my silly off the grid village. you will have full access to everything in the village. You can cook in the "cafe" and relax in the "glass house". You will also have a full view and access to the far fields and woods. With no electric at Karenville the nights tend to be dark and quiet.
All our guest say "I just wish we could have stayed longer". So for your enjoyment and ours, please consider booking more than one night.

Smoking? - I allow smoking, however no smoking in or around any of the buildings. Please do not throw cigaret butts on ground. Please dispose of properly.
Have a wonderful time at Karenville and leave smiling.
I am a fun and sometimes silly person. But most of all I have a strong connection to the wild things around me. My partner Robert is a plant and insect expert, and also enjoys the same. I especially like the simple things in life. Some of my favorite things to do is, hiking with our two goats, building or painting something, contra dancing, riding my vintage bicycle, showering under the rain spout, cooking over an open fire, having a great adventure, gardening and hanging around home doing the things we do. Things I do not enjoy are sports, shopping, fashion, and watching tv. But sure love my goats, oh yes and Robert too.
I built Karenville for my own enjoyment and pleasure. But then I wasn't sure what to do with all these silly buildings. Someone said I should put it on Airbnb. Without electric or running water I was quite sure no one would come. Wow! was I ever surprised. And now, suddenly, I'm paying County and State taxes.
My future hope for Karenville is that it may amuse and stimulate a new way of thinking and feeling for everyone who visits. And that all who visit K-ville leave with smiles on their faces.
Come experience the magic in Karenville !
