Across the street from CTA train. Runs every 6-10 minutes most of the day, 8-14 minutes late night, best way to get around. Now another reason to stay here: Lagunitas Brewery and Taproom, opened June 2014. If you like beer, it's heaven. Seriously.
We travel a lot, we know what people need. We've been doing this a while, we know what people want. Simply put, we do it right. The reviews speak for themselves.
You can rent an entirely furnished, really cool, comfortable apartment designed for travelers, for a great price. It's a really nice, really big place for one person, big enough for 7 persons (but ONLY one bathroom). Nobody lives in the apartment, it's used solely for vacation rental guests, so it's not full of other people's stuff that you have to deal with.
There is always someone upstairs (well not Always, we go out during the day a lot) if you need anything or have any problems, questions, etc.
The house was built in 1893. That's old in Chicago. It's a large, clean apartment in a large, old house, across the street from a CTA pink line train, so close you can set your watch by it. Takes 15-20 minutes to get downtown on the train, closer than Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, Logan Square and many more neighborhoods.
Kathleen, Craig, Aaron the cat and Mr.Sanchez the female dog, all live on the top floor in a separate apartment, and are always willing to help you out with anything at all. We don't double book the apartment, it is all yours, with a separate entrance and a separate key to come and go as you want.
The apartment has new central heating and air conditioning. The apartment has super-fast wireless Internet and cable television.
It's a train lover's paradise! Watch the Amtrak, Metra and the freight trains roll through on the north side from the 6' tall windows, or watch the city's CTA trains come and go from the front porch or the yard on the south side! Yes, they make some noise. 16-19 minutes from the city center on the CTA train. Three bikes available if you're adventurous. Fully functional and equipped kitchen in the apartment if you want to cook your own meals. Large supermarket nearby. 1/2 block to Douglas Park. 3 blocks to the brand new Lagunitas Brewery and taproom. Very good Mexican restaurants super-close, the great Italian restaurants in the heart of the Chicago neighborhood are five minutes away with the bikes, less than 20 minutes on foot.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Craig and Kathleen
The CTA train station is 30 yards (27 meters) from our front door. Doesn't get any more convenient than that.
Don't sit around all day watching T.V.
Don't hesitate to ask for whatever you need.
Don't be pigs, don't be assholes.
It's OK to be stupid to a certain degree.
Get out there and enjoy the city.
As soon as my group and I arrived we were warmly greeted by Craig along with Aaron the cat and Mr. Sanchez the dog (who we both love btw). Craig was super helpful in orienting us to our new home for the few days we had and giving us tips on where and how to go abouts the city. The main thing we regret is not visiting the brewery by the house like Craig suggested (our plans didn't coincide with the times of the brewery), so that means we'll just have to come back to see it for ourselves.
The listing was just as described and full of character and beautiful photos taken by Craig. Everything was in working order and there were plenty of amenities available to us. We loved the Brio game. We never had any issues during our stay and felt quite comfortable with our home away from home. The sounds of the trains never bothered me and I didn't have any complaints from my group about the noise either. Craig left us with plenty of fruits and yogurt which we are very thankful for! There's a grocery store nearby but we never had to go out for extra snacks since we had the food Craig provided and the snacks we bought during the day around the city.
The train station is right beside the place so it was very convenient with travelling via train. Google maps would estimate a 35min travel time to the core of downtown but we'd actually get there in 15-20min.
Overall, our stay at Craig and Kathleen's place was exactly what we needed while we were in Chicago. Thank you for making us feel welcomed and at home here :)
Both the space and the host were very congenial. We were a family of five with three young adults and there was plenty of room and lots of compliments on the accommodations. Our 30 year old, whose birthday we were celebrating with a trip to Chicago, said she much preferred staying here to some fancy hotel room.
Train noise is definitely part of the experience but our kids used earplugs and slept fine. All of us would happily stay there again.
Craig was great. He communicated well and was there waiting for us when we arrived. the apartment was quite nice. He had fruit, bagels, milk, and orange juice waiting for us. The apartment is right across from the train which made it easy to get into the city.
Staying with Craig (and Kathleen, though she was traveling during our stay) was a highlight of our year. I won't repeat what everyone else here has said, but will remark that every positive review I have read (and I didn't see any negative ones!) was spot on. Yes, the apartment is nice and the location is great, but the atmosphere of hospitality and friendliness and true care is what makes this place special. We were a group of five, ranging in age from my nephew (26) to my mother-in -law (81). All of our needs were met and exceeded. We will return...the sooner the better. Thanks, Craig.
Craig and Kathleen's place is exactly as described! Additionally from the minute you arrive, Craig makes you feel welcome and like at home.
The house is less than a minute to the train into the city and you are able to get into the loop in 20 minutes - including excellent views.
On our first day Craig took us to the brewery and afterwards we sat in the garden and shared stories and laughter.
Craig ist not only a great host, but also a superb ambassador for Chicago and the United States.
I loved everything about staying at Craig and Kathleens's place. They were very welcoming. The apartment is extremely comfortable and spacious; 7 of us were comfortable. The apartment had all the necessities and more. Also, Raymond's taco place on 22nd was awesome and in walking distance. Bottom line, great space, great host, great experience.
Very nice experience. Hope to stay next time. We got a very nice welcome.

Artists who have to work for a living. Dog and cat unemployed. As good Chicagoans, all four of us support Obama, so if you're Republican, you might want to stay somewhere else, ...like, uh, maybe Kentucky. Just to clarify, we've been to Kentucky and it's a very nice place to visit.
