St Hippolyte du Fort was primarily a small town built around the silk Industry. There are some very fine houses and each house generally has a bergerie/factory room for making the silk. In most of the houses you will find small nooks and crannies that were used to light tiny fires to keep the cocoons warm while they were hatching. The silk industry unfortunately collapsed when the Silk Road to China opened in the 19th century and silk became cheaper and easier to come by. Now most of these beautiful, big old houses are occupied by artists and artisans. A particularly creative community exists behind closed doors. Visit the famous silk museum at the top of the town. It will give you a better understanding of our house.
No smoking and a good sense of humour is always welcome: This is not a stuffy house, we are fairly relaxed.

I am a professional Interior Decorator working in the UK and France. I live between France and Australia where I have another home in Byron Bay (Coming to this site shortly) I love my life in France. It is full of nature, markets, great ingredients, brocante fairs, film, cafes and history. All the things that turn me on. My Home is a complete reflection of who I am. I travel to India and the Far East for work and to source items for my clients, so the house is full of eclectic finds from the East as well as wonderful funky French things I find here. It is a home to relax in, chill out and forget about strife. It is, I guess, like me,Boho chic. It reflects my background of film, and music, and art. I have wonderful dinner parties here with all the local artists and poets, writers and photographers. We are a happy lot and our homes exude the contentedness of our dispositions. I am planning to visit my grandchildren in NY this summer so the house is yours for three cherishable months. This house has been featured in Harpers & Queen and is shortly to appear in Celebrity decorator Kathryn Ireland's book titled "25 Homes that Inspire me"
