Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too. If you want to be close to Istanbul's touristic landmarks and activities, but at the same time enjoy the shelter of a peaceful house on a multicultural island, with a private garden with trees and sunlight all day long, within walking distance to a forest, sufficiently distant to the -sometimes crowded- touristic center of the island, but within reach of necessary amenities, this family friendly and secure house is ideal for you.

Der Wohnraum

The house is on Buyukada, the biggest one of the Princes' Islands - in the Marmara sea, near to Bostancı on the Asian side. You can walk in the forest, go swimming, enjoy the diverse architecture -reflecting the different cultural heritages- in the inhabited area, visit the Hagia Yorgi church & monastery with a panoramic view of Istanbul and the Marmara sea, or tour around the abandoned Greek Orphanage, said to be the second largest wooden building in Europe.

The house is 15 minutes to the center of the island (where the piers are) by walking, or 5 minutes by horse car. The road is quite flat all the way, only the last 2-3 minutes of the road is moderately uphill.

The house has a garden and is only 5 minutes distance to a pine forest, where you can walk up to the hill top in another 10 minutes and leave behind the sight of rolling Istanbul on the horizon. The exclusive garden has two separate parts: you can lie on the grass and bath in the sun in one part, or you can sit at the table and relax in the other part.

If you want to go to the beach, you can take road in the forest and reach one of the cleanest waters in Istanbul in 40 minutes. Or you can use the shuttle ferry motors departing from the central piers to reach the beaches in about 15 minutes.

The islands of Istanbul are famous for their cats and dogs, all quite friendly. But no dogs enter the gardens. You may have cat visitors from time to time.

Transport:
The island is accessible by ferries from the mainland. You can go in 30 minutes to Bostanci on the Asian side, accessible from the Sabiha Gokcen airport. And you can reach Kabatas in 1.30 hours, which is very near to Taksim, the Galata Tower and the historical peninsula & Sultanahmet area, where all the major landmarks like the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern, etc. reside. And you can use a direct tram line to go to Sultanahmet from Kabatas, in about 15 minutes.

The last ferry from the European side to the island departs at midnight. And you can find a ferry until 1 am from the Asian side.

Amenities:
All of your needs are provided in the house. You will find all relevant information about the island as well as emergency phone numbers in the house.

Shopping and Health:
You can find anything you need on the island, there are cafes, fish restaurants, restaurants offering Turkish & Greek foods, pide shops (can be considered similar to pizza), big markets, delicatessen shops offering imported goods, a weekly open green market, ice cream shops, patisseries...

There is also a well-equipped hospital on the island. And when needed, patients can be transported to the mainland in 7 minutes with a sea ambulance.

Night Life:
The night life in the island consists of tea-coffee shops and fish restaurants open until late hours. There are no significant clubs or bars. But summer nights are very pleasant.

Transport In The Island:
Except for a few official vehicles like ambulances, police cars, and utilities vehicles, and some private bicycles with electrical batteries, cars and motor bikes are forbidden on the island. Transport is possible by horse carriages, or you can rent a bike to tour the island. You must be careful while using bikes on the island, because some roads are up-and-down and there is much bike traffic in summer, combined with horse carriages.

Zugang für Gäste

All the house will be yours. The whole house is accessible, apart from the locked storeroom.

Interaktion mit Gästen

After the initial greeting and chat, I won’t be available in person, in the island, but I can be contacted and I am ready to give any needed information. I am staying in the mainland. I can greet the visitors on the island until 9 PM at nights, since the last ferry departing the island is at 22:15 PM and I have to take that ferry back to the mainland.

The city ferry lines from Eminonü/Kadıköy to Büyükada and from Bostancı to Büyükada, as well as motor ferry lines from Beşiktaş/Kabataş to Büyükada are all given in detail in the guest information sections.

I'm interested in meeting people from different cultures, hearing their stories, and learning about new viewpoints.

I like music, films, books, languages, cooking, photography, dreams, natural things, diving, skiing and cross-country walking.

I have traveled to England, France, Greece, Iran, Italy, the United States and Germany. In addition to spending 4 years of my childhood mainly in England, and then Germany, I have had much experience hosting people (apart from airbnb) from all over the world over many years. I have good communication skills and I know very well how to help people be comfortable in a foreign land, and ensure all their needs are taken care of.

I like sharing what I have and learning new things. My visitors can freely enjoy the extensive book (English), film and music (both Turkish and world) collections. The book collection is mainly focused on novels, politics, science-fiction, fantasy, philosophy and crime.
