Der Wohnraum

The room is made up with clean bed linens and towels before each guest. 9.5 miles east of Downtown Homer. There are two other guest rooms on other floors of the home, and in summer a tent site with outdoor kitchen. The house is a rustic old Alaskan home, built in the 1970's around a log cabin which is now the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. There is a nice lawn area with a picnic table and firepit with wood, and barbeque area. The property has wild Alaska charm, surrounded by native plants and flowers, and a small creek running through the wild part of the land. There is a small flock of 3 hens and a rooster free-ranging. They often greet visitors and the rooster likes to have his chest petted. There are Alaska books, maps and artifacts in the living room, including some USGS maps with good local trailheads circled, for guests to borrow. We have a Finnish style wood-fired sauna building, paneled inside with local cottonwood, with a secluded view of the bay and Homer Spit. Three tiers of benches easily accommodates 6 or more people. You can reserve the sauna stocked with wood, water, locally-made soap, essential oils for scented steam, shampoo and extra towels, for $25 for 3 hours. $5 extra per person after two. You can light it yourself if I'm at work. Detailed instructions are posted. I will be glad to heat it up for you if I am around. It needs about an hour to pre-heat, 2 hours in winter. To add this cleansing, relaxing, experience to your stay, let me know which day and time, and I will send you a special offer to cover sauna rental.

Zugang für Gäste

Late check-ins are fine. I encourage folks to enjoy the light summer nights. You can have a summer day anywhere, but the summer nights in Alaska have a magic of their own.
Relax and enjoy the views from the living room, deck, or by the fire pit in the garden, with wood provided.
Kitchen cupboard and fridge space provided. Some freezer space available.
Guests have use of the kitchen with a copy of "Cooking Alaskan" and a well-stocked spice cupboard. Buy some wild Alaskan seafood at Coal Point on the spit, and save money over dining out, by preparing your own!
Raspberry picking is encouraged in late summer.
Coffee, half & half, sugar and tea provided.

Interaktion mit Gästen

My interaction with guests varies, as I am often working in town. I like to let folks enjoy the space to themselves as much as possible, but I love to visit, provide travel info, and swap stories. My room and office is upstairs.

Weitere wichtige Infos

Towels, soap, blow dryer provided. There is an ironing board and steam iron in the upstairs bathroom. Laundry facilities are available in town.

We have to pay to have water trucked in, so I ask guests to use water conservatively when washing dishes and with excessive toilet flushing.
Our on-demand water heater means the hot water won't run out.
There's even an outhouse with a nice view on the property you can use. A typical Alaskan outdoor experience.

Alida's place in Homer is absolutely wonderful and peaceful. YOu have a view of the Bay and abundant foliage. It is easy to get to and from Homer. We would stay there again. You can cook, enjoy the view and also feel at home. Love love loved it.

Alida's place is about 10 miles out of town, but w beautiful view of the bay and it met our needs. Alida is so kind and thoughtful. She offered us homemade salmon chowder and bread one night (but we were too full from dinner). She also gave us some salmon that she had caught that night and we enjoyed it w breakfast the next morning.

This is the place for an authentic Alaskan experience. No bells and whistles, but the scenery is beautiful and Alida provides a map and successions for a great time.

I grew up in Anchorage from the late 1960's and since the late 1980's have lived and worked in the construction and fishing industries in many remote locations, such as Denali Park area, the Arctic Coastal Plain, Alaska Peninsula, the Interior, the Copper River Valley, Prince William Sound, and the Kenai Peninsula.
I have a degree in Natural Sciences with a focus on anthropology and the geologic history of Alaska. I'm an experienced and knowledgeable Wild Alaskan Plant guide with several seasons of experience assisting international visitors with travel planning within Alaska.
