hi, hello, hey there.
First off, thanks for looking at our home. We love living here and hope you'll love your stay too!
We are both currently working freelance and figured this would be a great way to meet people visiting the city and make some extra cash, so if you happen to be looking for a quiet retreat in the hills of Silver Lake, we hope you'll consider giving us a try!
Now for the good stuff...
We have listed the place as an apartment because there is a one bedroom unit tucked below us on the hillside, but for all intents and purposes you will feel like you are in your own house, we certainly do anyway.
Out front our home sits at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with it's own driveway and plenty of street parking. Front garden has a small lawn, healthy lemon tree and fire-pit/grill which is perfect for a leisurely evening cook out.
Inside an open plan living area with PLENTY of windows, and an expansive view of Silver Lake and the Hollywood sign beyond. Sunsets here are something else. If sunsets aren't your thing we have a 46" LCD TV with apple TV/Playstation 3 and a small selection of DVD's/games and the like. There's WIFI throughout the house too, and for the more musically inclined we have a couple of ipod speaker docks and a vintage Braun record player with a selection of eclectic vinyl for you to choose from.
Kitchen is fully stocked with cooking equipment, microwave and dishwasher etc. Washer and dryer is shared with below tenants and accessed from the kitchen.
1 bathroom - no tub, just a sunken shower I'm afraid, but it sure is nice
Guest Bedroom is mixed use as an office but has a fantastic sofa bed (it's properly comfortable) that folds out flat to a queen sized bed with tempurpedic topper, there's also a built in closet and a floor fan for circulation.
What a neighborhood, we love it here. If you don't want to set foot in a car once you arrive, you can manage it here! Literally a couple of minutes by foot and you will find a great selection restaurants (Reservoir, L&E Oyster bar, ), one of LA's best coffee places (LaMill), a super friendly liquor store (Silver Lake Liquor) and boutique shopping (Yolk, Lake and OK). If you feel like you can manage a 20-30 min walk you really open the doors to the very best of what the east side has to offer! I can bore you to tears with restaurant, bar and shopping ideas so feel free to ask me more questions down the line. Need to work off some of that food and drink? 5 minutes on foot will land you at the Silver Lake reservoir, where you'll find all manner of friendly people running, walking and generally enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
If you do want to do the car thing, you'll find we're pretty accessible. couple of minutes west and you'll hit the 101 freeway, couple of minutes east, the 5 freeway. It really is easy from here, with ONE exception; It might take you a while to get to the beach. 45 mins on a normal day, but weekends in the summer, the traffic can get gnarly. Just wanted to be honest about that, but make it a day trip and you'll be fine!
So I think we've covered everything, but trust me when I say that we LOVE having visitors and frequently host friends and relatives from all over the world, so we're used to all manner of questions. Anything I haven't covered that you want to know about the house, the area, the city, fire away by all means! I'm always happy to share.
Let's make it simple, this is where we live, we love living here, and we want to live here a while longer. We also want YOU to have a great time while you're living here too. After all that's what you're paying for right? Right!
So how about this; you guys just promise to be cool and treat the place with the same love and respect you would treat your own place and we'll all be cool.
Hello, my name is Gareth and I am a thirty-something year old human living, and making a living, in Los Angeles California. I live with my wonderful fiance Liza who detests the word fiance just as much as I do, which is why we get along so well. I wasn't always from here, I was born and raised in the English countryside, so when I speak the words can often sound a little unusual, but please don't let that put you off, I'm quite friendly really.
Our house is a little architectural place built in 1936 in the hills of Silver Lake where we have lived for a few years. We love our home and have spent a great deal of time decorating and filling it with things that we find inspiring, amusing or even just a bit cool. We love to socialize and have people over for dinner, a movie, a game of cards or even just some cocktails! Sharing good conversation with interesting people is perhaps our favorite thing to do.
