Der Wohnraum

This is a B&B with 6 private rms, each with ensuite bath & private terrace. Plenty of common use areas with courtyard gardens and 15 fountains throughout, hammocks, sparkling candlelight and fairy lights. Three of the rooms have kitchens. Entire house max is 15 px. only one room is shown here. I can provide more photos of the other rooms and common use areas.

Zugang für Gäste

wifi internet connection with good speed (no charge), library of books, games and dvds. Use of our adobe chiminea (grill) and oven for prep of special dinners onsite which we can arrange.

Our beach property is a 10 min walk from the house and provides hammocks & the services of our massage therapist for relaxing directly on the beach away from crowds. The beach and lagoon are lined with enramada style restaurants serving fresh seafood...fantastic!. These restaurants are designed for all day stays while you swim, sleep in hammocks, eat and repeat with roving musicians providing music.

Interaktion mit Gästen

I like to respond to guests desired level of interaction. I am there at breakfast time and love conversation but also understand and respect preferences for quiet time and privacy. I live in a separate structure onsite and am always available should you have a question. We have wonderful staff for housekeeping/breakfast.

Weitere wichtige Infos

Tropics means occasional mosquitos. They are mostly a challenge during our summer rainy season and greatly reduced November. Casa del Encanto is designed using traditional tropical motifs of palapa and tile roofs, continuous indoor/outdoor spaces, no screens/glass. All beds are draped with mosquito netting. Fans, high ceilings, netting and regular fumigation keep it comfortable for most especially during high season (Dec-May).

Barra de Potosi is a very safe place. In the midst of current modern world concerns, it´s as if we were in an oasis here.

Staying at Casa del Encanto is highly recommended. (Admittedly, this is coming from someone that is the polar opposite of a cruise ship vacationer.) If you want to explore Barra de Potosi, a sort of Mexican Mayberry on the sea, than their is no better home-base than Dona Laura's. The main structure has several guest suites, all tastefully presented in color and light. Best part of staying at Casa del Encanto; the host, Laura. She's a wealth of knowledge and is more than happy to share.

What a beautiful and relaxing week in the gentle ambiance of Laura's magical B&B in Barra de Potosi. It was such a treat to experience this gentle village from our oasis in the midst of it. We so appreciated the lovely space Laura has created: tinkling blue fountains, shady cool outdoor courtyard with tables and chairs where we had a delicious breakfast every morning and wonderful conversation with Laura and other guests, the ambiance at night with strings of lights and artfully positioned lamps to sit and read or visit and have a drink, the charming outdoor kitchen and daybeds to relax on. Our room was huge with it's own daybed and patio area, a king size bed and open air to boot. The bed had an efficient fan and netting if you wanted but we didn't need it. The beach was a long expanse of golden sand, the water warm, the lagoon full of amazing birds. The restaurants on the beach served up fresh fish and were fine with us parking our stuff for the day while we swam and came back for a drink and eventually lunch. The hardest part was slowing down enough to match the village vibe after our busy lives at home. We took long walks down the beach, hiked up the big hill and walked over to a wild beach for fun. This is a quiet, authentic corner of Mexico, not a place to party. If you appreciate connecting with other guests and the locals and participating in some of their events if you are lucky this place is for you. Laura has helped the village children by creating a library they can come and hang out at after school some days. This library was used many days we there. One day marine scientists were there to work with the children educating them about turtles and then we all went to the beach to release newly hatched turtles. Laura never asked us to bring anything but in hindsight if I had known about the library I would have gladly contributed some Spanish children's books. Maybe next time! After many unsatisfying visits to "tourist" Mexico we finally found a haven that reflects our travel values. We kept thinking we should go to Zijuatanejo but in the end we never did. Why would we go to a tourist town when that was what we had wanted to avoid?

Casa Del Encanto is located in the center of a tiny village surrounded by an incredible white beach and lagoon. We did not expect an American resort and Laura did a fabulous job of enriching our travel experience. The beds are comfortable, everything is clean and we had daily maid service. Public areas of the hotel are filled with fountains, candles, and artistic decoration. But it IS Mexico, and a very rural community at that. Breakfast at the Casa is a big deal. Fresh squeezed orange juice and a medley of fruit, yogurt, granola, eggs cooked to order, bread and sweet rolls...the works. And as much hot strong coffee as you can drink. With a time out on politics the breakfast conversation was vibrant and enlightening, with travelers from many countries sharing their experiences and planning for the next adventure. Then it was off to the beach, where the restaurants (many many) offer food if you wish, drinks of course, and have a hammock for your mid day snooze. In the evening it was wonderful to walk across the street where the family has developed a wonderful little restaurant that they open every evening. Tortillas created on a ceramic disk over an open fire and then rolled into enchiladas while you watch...fabulous! There were several more similar in the village but we never strayed that far. We found these places served good food but after a few days we missed our usual vegetable and pasta fare so cooked supper in the room. There we overcame the same challenges the local people deal with every day and enjoyed the experience. Barra De Potosi is a mostly unspoiled and remarkable place to visit and I highly recommend going there and staying with Laura at Casa Del Encanto, just don't forget you are in Mexico:)

Laura is a friendly host and her property is cute and homey. She sat down with us for a long time at breakfast, which is included, and had a very nice talk. The rooms are fairly basic but clean, and depending on how you look at it, either quirky or fantastical, or both!

We absolutely loved staying at El Encanto. It was beautiful and super comfortable. Barra de potosí is super quiet and low-key which was exactly what we wanted. We would love to come stay here again in the future.

My wife and I had an amazing experience at Casa del Encanto The Host: Laura is incredible. She was extremely knowledgeable about the area as she has resided in Barra de Potosi for many years. We had some great conversations in the courtyard and she offered some great tips. Prior to our arrival Laura responded to all my questions within a few hours. During our stay she was very helpful with all of our questions and concerns. The Property: The property is gorgeous. It is located off of a quiet village street. There is a beautiful courtyard where we had breakfast and drink in the evening. The courtyard is truly magical with the many trees, candles and fountains. The property is located in the quiet village and is about a 5 minute walk to the beach. There are 3 dinner restaurants in the village that are very close to the property. The Room: The rooms are open air which adds a lot to the ambiance. Our room in particular had a large balcony with a fountain and a hammock which we used to relax after long days in the sun. Because it is open air expect that you will hear noises from the village (primarily roosters) and some bugs and geckos in the room. All of this added to the unique experience that we were looking for. The Beach: The beach is beautiful and not crowded with tourists. You can sit down at a table at one of the many restaurants on the beach. We made these tables our home base while we played in the surf. These restaurants are well shaded and offer amazing drinks and food for very cheap. Overall this was the best beach vacation that I have ever had. The other guests that interacted with have been coming back to Barra de Potosi for many years and I can completely understand the appeal. Do yourself a favor and book your beach vacation with Laura, I doubt that you will have anything negative to say. It may ruin large all-inclusive resorts for you in the future and that's not bad thing. We will definitely be back to this wonderful village in the future.
