Lady Grey Cottage is a beautiful old heritage home in the quaint village of McGregor. Built in 1865 this gem of a home offers accommodation for up to 4 people (plus 1 extra child on a couch).
Ideal for families, couples and artists.
The heritage cottage consists of 2 bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed, and the other with two single beds. It has a sitting area (lounge and dining room) with a lovely big fireplace, a kitchen inclusive of an original Dover Stove for those chilly winter days and nights, and a bathroom with shower. The kitchen leads out on to a beautiful patio area with a table that seats 12 as well as a braai area. The front door opens out on to a large fynbos garden with loads of space to play, chat, relax, read...whatever takes your fancy.
We run The Mothertongue Project, an Arts NGO, from the cottage behind the main house. If you stay with us during the week, please let Marlene know whether you'd like to meet the theatre company, see a rehearsal or performance or whatever is happening at the time. They're usually busy from 9am to 5pm daily. If you'd like more info on the organisation, contact us and we'll send you the website URL.

Weitere wichtige Infos
Please note that all grey water empties into the garden. This may sometimes affect the flow of water out of the shower. Please let Marlene, our manager, know if this is the case, and she will do her best to rectify the situation. We also make use of a gas geyser. If the water doesn't heat up instantly due to low water pressure in our part of the village, turn the tap on and off again. This usually does the trick.
The fireplace in the lounge needs to be 'handled' with utmost care. Because of the thatched roof, we have a sieve in the chimney that catches any stray sparks. The grid needs to be pushed right up against the back wall so as to prevent smoke from entering the house. When first lighting the fire, a bit of smoke may come in to the house, but this will soon sort itself out. If the wind is blowing strongly, it may also affect the directionality of the smoke. If this is the case, you may need to use the Dover stove in the kitchen until the wind subsides. Unfortunately there is not much we can do about the wind causing the smoke to blow into the house! We also ask you please to make sure that all fires are completely extinguished before you go to bed.
All of the beds have electric blankets on them for chilly winter nights. It is advisable to switch the blanket/s on at least an hour before you go to bed. If you would prefer not to use the electric blankets, we have some blankets stored in the cupboards. Please ask Marlene to take these out for you.
Please also feel free to contact Marlene if you need assistance with anything else in the cottage.
There is no smoking inside the house. We would appreciate guests taking care of our heritage gem by treating it as a home away from home. Guest are able to access wifi at a cost of R24 for 2gigs of data. The wifi is capped and connected to The Mothertongue Project, the NPO that is associated with the property.
