Our light and comfortable attic studio feels like a treehouse. With your own kitchenette and free laundry it is the perfect arrangement for longer stays. Only two blocks from the Ashby BART station, enjoy easy access to San Francisco.
Our space is ideal for a medium-term stay for one or two people who prefer mostly keeping to themselves. The attic room has a double bed, dining room table and chairs, kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, gas range with hood, microwave, cookware, flatware, etc., wifi, and a surround sound home theater system. The space was completely remodeled in 2014-15, is insulated top and bottom and has a quiet, efficient gas heater and double pane windows and skylight.
The bathroom (also remodeled in 2014-15) is located down one flight of stairs but is for guest use only minus the laundry which we share. There is a tall shower stall--no tub. There is always plenty of hot water with a 120 gallon solar hot water tank backed up by a powerful on-demand heater and all new copper plumbing.
Access to the unit is via the back door and staircase which is semiprivate (we only go back there for laundry and storage) so you never have to walk through our unit and your bedroom door locks with a deadbolt.

We are a professional couple with an 10-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl who keep us fairly busy. That said we are curious, friendly people and would be happy to share a meal with you.
No smoking on the premises please. No pets allowed. Laundry hours 8 AM to 8 PM (okay if dryer is finishing up by 10 PM). Home theater system (or at least the sub-woofer) should be turned off by 11 pm. California is experiencing an extreme drought… Please limit showers to 5 min. A small dinner party is fine, just no huge, noisy parties please! Additional overnight guests subject to approval.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area since the age of six and I have lived in Berkeley off and on since 1995 when I started attending UC Berkeley where I met my wonderful wife. We are happily married with an eight-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter. For the past 10 years I've worked in the solar energy field in engineering and design and I am passionate about transitioning the world into using more renewable energy. I am also very excited about the "Real Food" movement of which Berkeley is arguably one of the epicenters: we recently passed the first soda tax in the nation last November.
Berkeley is a great place to stay if you like good food--we have one of the best farmers markets in the Bay Area, and if you happen to be here on a Tuesday, you will be only three blocks away from one of them! if you are into it, I'm happy to cook you the best bacon and egg breakfast you're likely to ever experience! I'm also very much interested in fermenting and happy to share my latest batch of sauerkraut, yogurt, crème fraîche, harrisa, or dill pickles!
