Die Unterkunft

I think you can really appreciate our room and our culture if you came to Africa to discover the real Africa, how we live here and you want to live as we do. Our little house is near the Ethiopian Airlines Office and Asheten hotel. If you come, you will get the chance to stay in a real, clean, warm and lovely place. You can also lock the room from inside and outside for your security.

Zugang für Gäste

During your stay you will have the room to yourself only. There is a double bed and we will provide clean sheets, blanket and towels. We have electricity in the house so you will have light, and you could watch TV and listen to music if you like. There is a tap with running cold water in the garden. The (African Style) toilet is outside the room and is shared with our neighbours in the compound. We will provide you with a bucket of hot water to wash outside of the room like we usually do as we don't have running water in the room. Otherwise, we can arrange for you to have a real European toilet and shower in a hotel close to the house. No worries, it is clean and with hot water. On your arrival we will welcome you with a traditional coffee ceremony, and we'll make cook you a nice breakfast in the morning. I will show how to cook great Ethiopian foods. I also provide a Trekking & Tours to Highland mountains surrounding Lalibela. I also arrange Guide service, Horse Ride and Car rent. By providing great services i will make your stay enjoyable & unforgettable.

You could go around by yourself and be as independent as you like. Otherwise, I could help you to move around the town which is quite different from where you come from. We could recommend to you what to do, where to eat, to buy things and what is a fair price, what to visit here, and we can also recommend you a good English speaking guide. I would be happy to get to know you, and find out about your culture and interests. If you like, we could share a nice dinner with my family or friends eating the typical Ethiopian food called ingera.

Die Nachbarschaft

My neighbourhood is really nice and safe. All my friends and family live around. The place is a couple of minutes walk from the city center and close to restaurants, shops, internet points, bars, the famous churches...

You can walk around all the sites in Lalibella, as it is a small town. If you like you can take tuk-tuk's as well, which might be a good idea after dark. Also, we can help you with organizing local buses and trips around the area.

Weitere wichtige Infos

I can offer you also my services as a special guide, and I'm happy to guide you on walks in the local area, and around the city.
I am not an offical guide (because for that, we need to study for 3 years) so there are some actvities I can't do with you. But I can introduce you to some official guide friends of mine, who speak good English, and can take you around the churches.
So if you want to visit our 11 amazing churches and it would be a pity for you not to see them, I can show you where is the ticket office (the price is 50 dolar or almost 1000 birrs for foreigners). You can go by yourself or pay an official guide to explain you the story and show you everything.
Then what I can offer you is to bring you to do a walk in the mountains around to see one church in the top (the entrance fee is 200 birrs) with a beautiful landscape and really remotes houses. The price would be 100 birrs each person so in total with the entrace fees 300 birrs each (12 euros).

Just to be nice and respectful to our home, our culture and my families who lives next to the room.

Great place to stay! Fisha was not in town, so Mengesha (from "The Lovely Africain Room") picked me up at the airport, showed me around Lalibela, took me hiking, and he and his family made me delicious coffee and food during my stay. I felt very welcomed at their place. The room itself is comfortable and cozy. There's a water source in the courtyard and lighting/electricity in the room. It's a bit of a precarious walk down a slick dirt hill, but otherwise rather accessible from the main town.

Was a very nice start. Fisha picked me up from the bus station and the room was cool. I was very happy. The next day, unfortunately, Fisha kept asking for money for a "charity" and after for himself. He was asking me to drink coffee somewhere and then received commission on the coffee. He pushed several times for me to take an early taxi from his friend but I didnt want to wait at the airport for 5 hours. The location is very nice and the Ethiopians are lovely. I made new friends and explored the BEAUTIFUL Lalibela. Fisha was also a great guy, he should just not ask for money especially after I declined several times. All in all a great experience if he didnt constantly was seeking commissions/donations. I felt very annoyed because of it.

My stay at Fisha's was perfect, I had the chance to meet and chat with the family, Fisha gave me tips and was able to help me organize everything I wanted to do in Lalibela. The bathroom is very basic (pit latrine) but the room has everything I needed, a good mattress and electricity - I slept like a baby! If you want to know what's life for a normal family in Lalibela... This is the place for you!

We definitely recommend this place to all people who like to stay with a local, warm & welcoming family. Everything was like described. We didn't meet Fisha as we was in Addis Abeba but his brother & the rest of the family took very good care of us. The brother took us on a hiking trip to a rock church about six kilometer away from Lalibela which we would recommend to everybody. The children are lovely, the coffee & food tasty. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Very welcoming hospitality- Fisha's brother Masai picked us up from the bus station and joined us for drinks and was very helpful and kind. The room and amenities are very basic so it wouldn't be suited for someone who needs a western toilet /shower, but it was a different kind of experience from staying at the usual hotels.

Fisha's family was very welcoming. They were very quick to respond when we had a mix up with our hotel. Breakfast every morning was delicious. The photos and description is very acurate. We went sans shower for the time we were there but there is a hotel nearby that you can shower at for a small fee. We felt like locals living with Fisha's family.

My name is Fisha Tariku. I was born and raised in Lalibela and I have three sisters and one brother. I am 23 years old. As for my life outside of the school you’ll most likely find me playing football, reading books, in church or sharing moments with my friends and families.
I am studying in Lalibela preparatory school in the night time and I started meeting and serving foreigners in the day time. Beside my study, I would be happy to host people directly in my home and make them discover our culture and our town.
