*This cabin was just featured in Sunset Magazine!* (January 2017 issue) Experience the desert wilderness in comfort. This 5-acre, backcountry Joshua Tree site features a solar-powered homestead cabin bunkhouse, outdoor kitchen, hot water shower, flush toilet, firepit & grill and panoramic views of the desert, beneath a starry nighttime sky.
The perfect mix of wilderness and refinement. A little bit like camping—with an outdoor kitchen (with two-burner camp-style stove), firepit (during winter, when safe), and solar panels instead of electricity—but instead of a tent you'll bunk in a restored homestead cabin "bunkhouse," take a hot-water shower and use a flush toilet. On five acres, in Joshua Tree's unpaved northern back country, less than 20 minutes' drive from downtown.
The site has solar lighting, and no bright lights. We promote sky/stargazing, so the property can be very dark, especially if there is no moon.
There are flashlights on the site.
The tap water here is from a local aquifer and is clean and tastes good. We drink it.
The cabin has Mexican blankets, sleeping bags and decorative pillows for four. You can bring your own bedding (pillows, sheets, etc.) if you like.
You are welcome to pitch a tent at the site.
Bring your own towels for the shower. We do provide hand towels/dish towels.
Pack some flip-flops for your walk on the sand from the shower to the cabin.
The outdoor kitchen uses a cooler for refrigeration. Bring a bag or two of ice.
The kitchen has a two-burner gas cooktop. There is no oven. There are cooking and eating utensils and dishes.
The kitchen has a passive solar sink, powered by direct sunlight; this means that sometimes there will be hot water, sometimes not -- if necessary you can boil your water to do dishes. We supply the dish soap.
You will need to bring your own cooking supplies, like salt, pepper, oil, etc.
There is a filter coffee-maker there, but no grinder. (Remember, no electricity in the kitchen.)
There's also a barbecue grill outside; bring your own briquettes if you want to grill.
Guests may have freshly prepared organic juices made by local juice cleanse guru Angela de la Agua delivered to the cabin. A menu/pricelist is available upon request.

We are creative types who left Los Angeles in 2010 seeking a richer, more serene lifestyle inside nature. Stephanie is an architect, Jay is founder/editor of Arthur Magazine. We live in Joshua Tree full-time and rent out our three restored homestead cabins (with a fourth on the way). We're active in the local community and we also maintain ties to friends and colleagues in LA and beyond. We're excited to meet you and we offer you a warm welcome.
