Double room with canal views in beautiful period home yet only ten minutes walk from the historic city centre of Lancaster. Convenient location for the hospital and universities as well as touring the North of England, Lake District and Scotland.

Der Wohnraum

Three private rooms in a beautiful period home with canal views yet only ten minutes walk from the historic city centre of Lancaster. This ia a private home and not a hotel or guest house. We are a little more than ten minutes walk to the train station where you can take direct trains to London in 2 1/2 hours or Edinburgh. We are a short drive from the sea at Morecambe. 45 minutes to the English Lake district or East to the Yorkshire Dales and moors. The location of our house allows easy access to a range of historic towns and cities such as York, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester and also areas of natural beauty by car or train. The University of Cumbria is a short drive or 20 minutes walk away, while buses to Lancaster University run every 10 minutes from the bus stop at the end of the road. Alternatively you could drive to Lancaster University in ten minutes or cycle along the cycle route. Lancaster Royal Infirmary is just across the canal. The railway runs next to the house and during the summer months a steam train passes by on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
The house is laid out over four floors. It is large and (URL HIDDEN) are two double bedrooms on the first floor, one with canal views. Each has a double or king size bed and ample wardrobe/drawer space. There is a shared bathroom for guests with a 3 piece suite and an electric shower over the bath. A further attic bedroom has a small double bed. This room has canal views, ample shelves and drawers but no wardrobe.
There is a large kitchen diner, utility, storage for bikes and two large reception rooms.
In the basement the large kitchen diner where guests are welcome to prepare meals, is well equipped with a range cooker, fridge freezer and dishwasher. There is a table and chairs with comfortable seating for six. The kitchen has patio doors out to the paved courtyard with large pond. There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, a small cloakroom and cobbled shed.
On the ground floor, guests are welcome to join us in our cosy living room with open fire and chesterfield sofas. There is a flat screen television with free view digital channels and a DVD player. Across the entrance hall is a larger more formal lounge with a music system. There is a fast broadband BT infinity wifi connection. The front garden is lawned and privacy is afforded by a trellis fence supporting mature honeysuckle and wisteria. Canal boats often drift by in the summer.
Just 5 minutes walk away across the canal is arguably one of the best pubs in Lancaster serving a range of cask ales and good food at reasonable prices on a canal side terrace. On street parking is available with a permit payable locally. Or there is free parking 200 metres down the road. (It may be possible to park a small car next to the house) A walk into Lancaster will take you to two theatres, a multi screen cinema and several historic buildings including Lancaster castle which until recently housed a prison. Lancaster has a quayside with bars and restaurants and its pedestrianised centre is home to many independent clothes and jewellery shops. There is the Storey arts complex and a number of small galleries. On Saturdays and Wednesdays there is a market selling local produce. Lancaster has a large park with a butterfly house and monumental folly which a climb to the top gives the most magnificent views of Morecambe bay and the lakeland hills beyond. Lancaster is a fantastic central base from which to tour some of the best of England Scotland and even North Wales. Closer to home there is plenty to do. The university has a state of the art sports complex that is open to the public. The museums run family events through the summer and Morecambe hosts a festival on every weekend of the summer months.
We may be flexible about dates and price. Contact us if you have a suggestion and please be aware that this is our home and not a hotel. (Please note prices given are per room based on single occupancy)

Interaktion mit Gästen

We generally leave our guests to their own devices as we are often quite busy ourselves.
We have occasionally cooked with longer term guests or gone for a drink together. We are sociable and friendly and are happy to give advice regarding the local area or just to chat in the kitchen etc. The house is quite big so it is easy to keep yourself to yourself if that's what you want.

I stayed in Lancaster for three months. Audrey picked me up and also got me to the station on my last day. Both Audrey and Eugene were always ready to answer any questions I had and made sure I was okay but otherwise left me alone so I could work. They always told me when someone else was staying in the house and also welcomed some of my friends while I was there.

Audrey and Eugene were extremely kind hosts, I enjoyed my time at their beautiful house very much. The area they live in is amazing, the canal is across the street and nice pubs and the city centre are within walking distance. I would (and hopefully will) stay at their house again anytime. Many thanks!!!

It was so nice to live with Audrey and Eugene for two weeks. They were very nice and even picked me up at the train station. The house is exactly the same as the description and I am welcome to use their kitchen and living room. During the weekend, I was also invited to cook dinner together and Eugene is a great cook! Except the lovely couple, the house is located at a perfect place, close to the downtown (10 mins walk) and the nature (just out of house). I could see the canal and the sheep on the little hill from the window, so wonderful! If I returned Lancaster, this is my first choice! Highly recommended!

Audrey's lovely home came to be the first stage of me staying in Lancaster for a one year employment. Audrey and her husband Eugene are great hosts and made me feel very comfortable and well cared for. After a warm welcome Eugene helped me carrying my suitcases upstairs and escorted me to a free-of-charge parking space (which is pretty rare in Lancaster). Whenever I had a question, Audrey and Eugene were eager to help. My room (the red one) was spacious and comfy. From the window I had a great view over the pretty canal and a sheep's pasture. The house is only a short walk to the city centre with all its shops, takeaways, restaurants and pubs. Also, if like running or going for a pleasant walk, there is a pavement alongside the canal, with an entry only a few meters away from the doorstep. Tl;dr: Warm hospitality, cozy room, good location. Highly recommended!

Though I was in town for a conference, and Audrey and her husband made me feel right at home! They picked me up and dropped me off at the train station, and were so kind with suggestions of places to eat! In addition, they were very accommodating when I asked if I could keep my suitcase there a bit past check-out. The room is lovely, with a great view in the morning. The bathroom is large, and shared if there is an upstairs tenant. If you are in town to visit the University of Lancaster, this is a great location, as it is close to the train station and to several convenient buses to the university.

Staying at Audrey’s place was an absolute pleasure. The house is in a terrific location right next to the canal, with a 5-10-minute walk to the city center. The house is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, and had everything that we needed for our stay. The kitchen is a great space to have a relaxing meal and, weather permitting, the back yard is a lovely spot to enjoy some afternoon sun. Audrey and Eugene were very generous in picking us up from the airport and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. We enjoyed chatting with them while cooking and we had the pleasure of meeting some of their friends one night. We would definitely stay at their place again, and can heartily recommend it to other travelers. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Audrey and Eugene!
