Via dell'Orto is one of the most characteristic streets in Oltrarno, the "Rive Gauche" of Florence. A lovely studio apartment, newly renovated, in an old building near Piazza del Carmine. It 's nice and bright, with equipped kitchenette, traditional floor tiles, central heating. The bed is a new bed, just bought, of excellent quality. If you are three we can bring a folding bed or a small bed for a baby. We have removed the sofa bed you can see in the pictures.
The area is rich in restaurants, bars and clubs, full of nightlife, but the apartment is quiet. Opposite is the my wife's favorite pastry. (Mine is in via Maggio, not far). The flat is at walking distance from main monuments: the Santo Spirito's Cathedrale, by Brunelleschi, Ponte Vecchio Pitti Palace with its six museums. We are in a restricted traffic zone, but at the border, then you can park very close to home. It's a cheap cab ride to the station.
It's an area of Florence, where there are still good butchers and farmers markets and grocery stores, but there are also small supermarkets open late.
There is a great tradition of craftsmen, right here around.
Ancient workshops of bronze, wood turners, carpenters, restorers, silversmiths, even a silk factory of traditions that still uses the same wooden frames. You can visit them or glance at the artists at work.
Daniel Day Lewis, the actor, lived and worked around the corner for one year, making the shoemaker's apprentice in the workshop of Stefano Bemer.
