Our spacious sunlit basement apartment was designed expressly with your comfort in mind. The apartment is sleek and open, yet warm and inviting. We are centrally located, just 3 blocks from N. Mississippi Ave and 4 blocks from N. Williams.

Our spacious sunlit basement apartment was designed expressly with your comfort in mind by your hosts, two world travelers, and an interior designer. The apartment is sleek and open, yet warm and inviting. Walk or bike to New Seasons Market (Portland's superior version of Whole Foods), then cook yourself a gourmet meal with our gas stove (we'll provide cookware, spices and teas for after). Nestle into the L-shape couch and then enjoy a bubble bath in our claw-foot tub. The queen-sized bed will provide a warm and cozy respite after exploring all that Portland has to offer (and tucked under that bed is a single mattress that you can pull out to use as well). It's the perfect oasis in the heart of Portland's hippest neighborhood with a garden and fire pit to boot (we'll supply the wood).

Guests have access to the full apartment through a private backyard entrance. Entering into the lower level of our home you’ll first encounter a spacious mud- room to hang your coats and outerwear (this is a shared space). The door to your private apartment lies straight ahead (this door locks for your privacy and you are free to store any bikes you are bringing in the shared basement space).

Once in the apartment you'll find a full kitchen (refrigerator, gas stove and oven, microwave, kitchen island, juicer, and cast iron pans), a queen sized bed, an extra single mattress, a couch and other amenities including a claw-foot bathtub. No TV. Full internet access provided.

We have a lovely vegetable and fruit garden and guests are welcome to help themselves (when in season) to fresh raspberries, blueberries, plums, kale, and fresh herbs. The backyard space has a fire pit, chairs, and table for outdoor eating. Make yourself at home! The backyard is a space that will be shared with us, your hosts. We have a very sweet and friendly Great Dane and also a 9 year-old son who likes to hang out in the yard.

We live on-site above the apartment, and are eager to greet guests and are on hand daily to help you navigate your way through Portland and the Northwest if so desired. If we're not home we are available by text, phone or email.

Your level of interaction with us is entirely up to you--The apartment itself is completely private, and while we are more than happy to socialize we also know that sometimes after all the stimulus of new vistas, quiet is what is needed. We have supplied the apartment with a book of menus, pamphlets, maps, and brochures of surrounding attractions and restaurants, for when you go out and a small book collection to enjoy with a cup of tea for when you return.

Your hosts are quintessential Portlanders, Jill works in alternative healthcare and Eric is a professional accordionist and opera composer. However, when guests are staying he abides by this dictum: "The definition of a gentleman is someone who can play the accordion, but doesn't."

We have a lovable elderly great Dane that barks for a few seconds a couple times a day and a ten-year old whose feet you might hear a little as he pads off to school in the morning. You will hear us during the day for sure as we live above you but we'll do our best to keep the noise level down in the morning.

Right smack dab in the middle of the two liveliest and popular streets in Portland (Mississippi Ave and Williams Ave), the neighborhood is an embarrassment of riches from coffee to restaurants (many of them prominently feature bacon) to live music and microbrews and even a barbershop that serves you a whiskey and cigar with your shave! The street we live on is quiet (although on hot Summer nights you might hear the banjo player in the next yard play old timey music) and there are parks as well as local hot spots all within minutes (including nationally recognized restaurants, and music venues). New Seasons Market is within five minute biking distance, ten minute walk.

Don't want to shop for food? Food carts are abundant as are Thai restaurants, Pizza, Mexican food, Japanese fusion, Middle-eastern food, or a steak at Tasty and Sons (you'll be a 2 minute walk away from that heavenly deliciousness). And this IS Portland so there's even a Mac and Cheese restaurant that will give you the option of your bowl to be gluten and dairy free. Or you could just drown in a plate of French Toast Challah at Gravy restaurant.

Want to bike it? Portland is the bike friendliest city in the U.S. your own little Amsterdam with wide bike lanes and paths that go throughout the city and along the Willamette River. We are a ten minute bike ride to downtown Portland, and a 5 minute bike ride to the Skidmore Bluffs.

We have room to store your bikes in our safe locked entrance. .

We have plenty of off-street parking directly in front of our house although a vehicle is not a necessity in our neighborhood. You can take the light rail from the airport directly to our neighborhood, only having to switch trains one time. We are a quick 10 minute bus ride from the train station.

We are within 4 blocks of 2 separate bus lines and within 10 blocks of our light-rail system, the MAX. The buses run every 15 minutes and getting downtown on public transport takes less than 20 minutes.

Bikes are available to rent just a half mile away from our house at Everybody's Bike Rentals and Tours.

We love having guests and want you to feel right at home. That said, we live above you and would appreciate quiet hours from 10 p.m.-6 a.m.

Sorry no pets.

No smoking. This includes cigarettes and weed (legal here in July 2015). The latter is okay outside.

We recycle and compost! Please help us keep as many items out of the landfill as possible. We have an easy system in place.
