Surrounded by towering mango trees, the “Wagunda House” provides a unique organic farm experience within the natural gardens and sounds of the Belizean rainforest.

The 55-year-old wooden colonial house saved lives (also of the owners’ family), while hurricane Hattie destroyed the country in 1961 and was relocated from the town center to a Garifuna farm in 2013.

It shall now be a place of retreat for everyone who wishes to feel the simple, nature-oriented lifestyle of earlier times.
The historical colonial house has two lovely bedrooms, a spacious living room, bathroom (warm water) and a full-equipped kitchen in a separated building connected by a porch.

Enjoy and observe the overwhelming flora and fauna of the tropics.

Great place to stay, a little out of the town so make sure you have proper transportation planned.

Authentic home. Lovely history. Not the Hilton....thank goodness. Wish we had had more time to chat only one night in Dangriga.

The hosts were very accommodating. They picked me up from the bus and brought me to the house.

The house is colorful and fun -- we esp loved the art and functional kitchen. The location easy walking distance but a good idea to use a flashlight after sunset. Close to hospital and a nice fruit stand. We had a little trouble coordinating check-in (partly my fault, we had no phone but when I could use, they weren't reachable and so had to rely on internet cafe to connect via email, couldn't check in until 5). Once arranged, they quickly picked us up, stopped so we could bulk up on some food supplies, left a map for downtown Dandriga arts. Description says "warm" shower and Americans prob expect this to mean "scalding" but it's cold/tepid at best, they were were told it would be fixed soon.

Yes we finally received our connection to the local water system and don't depend on the rain. The water pressure is good and we have a warm shower.

We loved the house, the authentic decorations and the comfortable beds. Ingrid was a great host, she responded very quickly to (many) e-mails and picked us up at the bus station. We were there for the Garifuna festival in November, and it was great to sleep in a quiet house and not in the middle of a partying city. The downside: the house is a little bit far from the center and not in an area you can walk alone at night. This means you always have to call/text a cab each time you want to do/buy something. A taxi takes only 5 minutes and is very cheap though, and Ingrid arranged a friend/cab driver who was 24/7 available for us during our stay. Because it's in the middle of nowhere, chances are you hear noises around the house at night. I just tried to think they came from animals ;) The shower didn't have a lot of water, but Ingrid said it would be fixed soon after raining season.

Hallo Stefanie, sorry to hear about the dirty bathroom rug. I had washed it just a day before. maybe you entered with your dirty shoes . I noticed that you all had left some of the windows not secured. the light on the porch was still on,and one of the chairs was outside. Yes the house is very remote, but you had known that from the beginning and I guess wouldn't booked it if you had found something else. Anyway it was good you had a nice time in Dangriga. Ingrid

Dangriga, the culture capital of Belize, is a great spot to spend a
few days sharing the Garifuna experience. You can take an
organized tour or just spend some time walking around town
and mixing with the friendly locals. Stay, have some traditional
food, enjoy the nature, learn to beat the drum or dance
to the rhythms of Punta Rock.
