The Mission District is sunny and warm - a vibrant part of the city where locals, visitors, tech, and travel all come together in one of the more truly diverse sections of life.

House is on Mission, at about 14th street. A few blocks down, 16th and Mission is a pretty big transportation hub for the area. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit, the underground metro rail line) and Muni (the bus) are accessible from there in all directions, including to-and-from OAK or SFO. We are a good hike from City Hall (at Civic Center) up north, and Dolores Park is a great place to chill (a few blocks west at 18th). The Castro and downtown are longer, more enjoyable walks but are a pleasant stroll on level ground if you’ve got the time. Have some eats, drinks, or ice cream along the way. You could probably walk to the Lower Haight or Castro in about 20 minutes if you were in a hurry.

You can easily BART to 16th and Mission from SFO and walk the remaining few blocks to the house from there. It is about a half hour or so for the ride.

Freeway onramp is one block east on South Van Ness.

The Valencia Corridor (one full block west) is full of bike shops and coffee shops, restaurants, dinner dates, and plenty of discount and high end shopping. The entire Valencia and Mission both have their share of bars and pubs, and there are plenty more just off the beaten path. Fun street life day or night.

Now, let’s talk about food.
Whether you want to enjoy a good plate of some serious sit down Mexican or just grab a quick wrap on the go, the Mission comes with a myriad of choices for you. Central and South American restaurants (try the ceviche at Limon!) are also available in abundant supply. But there is a huge mix overall, including chinese, japanese, thai, indian, ethiopian, greek, mediterranean, italian, fish and chips at pubs, and all kinds of fusion within walking distance from the house. Veggie / vegan / free range / gluten free and other considerations often available or accommodated by request (or try Herbivore 100% vegan on Valencia).

Groceries:
There is plenty of fresh produce available on Mission street. Or you can also find a full-size discount grocer a few blocks east, and a really nice Rainbow Grocery co-op across the street from that (on Folsom).

Aside from one of the city’s sunniest microclimates, and delicious world-flavored foods, one of the best things about the Mission is that it is flat. You can easily walk or ride a bike pretty much anywhere. The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is accessible a few blocks down at 16th and Mission station, and can take you south to SFO, or north/east to downtown SF and plenty of other great places in the East Bay, like downtown Oakland (City Center) or UC Berkeley (Downtown Berkeley).

In addition, San Francisco is well served by a variety of taxi and other transportation services including:
Luxor Cab -
City Cab -
Yellow Cab -
Uber - cellphone app
Lyft - cellphone app
Ho-mobile - cellphone app
City Car Share or Zipcar - hourly car rental

Public Transportation
BART - 16th and Mission, 3 blocks south. Goes to south San Francisco (Daly City, Millbrae, etc) and direct to OAK and SFO (via airport AirTrain). Also makes several stops in downtown SF (Civic Center, Powell, Montgomery, and Embarcadero), with additional service to the East Bay, including downtown Oakland and Berkeley.
Muni [myoo’ nee] bus line #14 - Mission and 13th, is the closest bus stop going into town and is located across 13th street, across the overpass. Easiest way to get to Moscone (exit 4th street).
Market Street is 3 blocks up and runs classic trolleys and the underground straight to downtown. (Same stops as the BART.)

Street parking
Being so central, things are very accessible by bike, taxi, public, or foot. If you have a car with you, the spots directly out front of the building are metered, which run from 9am - 6pm, Monday - Saturday. Free street parking is in between those hours, and on Sundays, or from 6pm Saturday - 9am Monday. Be sure to always check street signs (everywhere) for street cleaning or other notifications that day and night.

When I arrived at George's, I felt right at home. It's a unique space filled with an interesting blend of late mid-century objects and unique art. Comfortable and central, the apartment abuts a live music venue and Mission is a major street — if you're a light sleeper, this may be something for you to consider. If that's not a concern for you, book this apartment before you miss the chance — you won't regret it.

The apartment is near an overpass in a very commercial part of the Mission. Some nearby buildings appear to be abandoned; there was a dead rat on the sidewalk outside one morning; and there's a live music venue that plays grunge rock in the building next door (no, earplugs will not be sufficient). The photos make the apartment look much cleaner and more modern than it actually is. In reality, the place is old and dirty and there are all sorts of weird issues: lightbulbs are blown out; the light switches aren't connected to lights; the place smells musty.

Great location. Parking was a bit difficult, unless you park at a lot or garage. Not something in George's control. Apartment was clean, spacious, etc. Much rather stay here than a hotel.

Despite reviews of the Mission area being a nice place to visit, the actual street and location of this property was described to us by the taxi driver that was transporting us from the airport as 'the worst and most dangerous area in San Francisco'. Our taxi driver also told us he had been shot at in his taxi here and it was clear as we were driving along the street to the property that this is quite a dangerous and unsafe area and we were not prepared to stay there (with our 2 year old daughter - and even without her I would not have felt safe staying here). As such we literally didn't even stop and check in but drove directly to a hotel near union square and checked in there instead. I can't comment on the interior of the property, and George was certainly easy to communicate with, but we were really very disappointed with this experience, and were lucky that our plane had arrived in the morning so we at least had the daylight hours to find a decent hotel and not be stranded at night.

George's apartment is so artistic, and he definitely has a great taste. Also the neighborhood has a great deal of good restaurants around. I would like to stay at George's apartment again.

For San Francisco, it is good price. The location is ok. George is friendly and easy going.
