Die Unterkunft

The flat is on the ground floor of a Victorian converted house, with two bright doubles with plenty of storage space for clothes. They sleep five comfortably with a large front bedroom and smaller back bedroom, as well as additional single bed (I can put this wherever you'd like).

I love hosting and I do whatever I can to ensure my guests are comfortable and happy, and that their stay in London is as special as possible. I provide breakfast (cereals, jams, home-baked bread, milk, tea coffee etc), hairdryers, an iron, adaptor and anything else you may need. I can also help with itineraries, suggest restaurants, local secrets - just ask.

The front bedroom is large with a bay window and fireplace, it gets the sun throughout the day so is lovely and sunny. It has a double bed and is decorated in a homely country style. It has a high spec bluetooth speaker you can connect to to play music. The second double has a large window overlooking the patio garden and plenty of in-built storage space to store cases, clothes etc. The flat stays nice and cool in the summer, and warm with central heating and plenty of blankets in the winter.

The flat has a large living/dining area, with a comfy sofa and a couple of armchairs, dining table, and Virgin TV. There is free and quick wifi. There is a kitchen with oven, toaster, plenty of crockery you can use and washing machine for clothes - I will leave detergent and softener for you. The kitchen opens straight into the bathroom which is a little unconventional but makes getting ready, making toast etc in the morning nice and easy.

There are two fridges, you have one for your exclusive use in the kitchen. The kitchen leads into the bathroom which has recently been redone with bath, rainfall shower etc. It's lovely and relaxing taking a bath as it backs into the garden with no road noise.

Neighbours are pretty quiet and friendly, and there is a small and peaceful patio garden which I have recently had fun decorating and planting in (it even has a beach corner!), and gets the sun throughout the day.

Zugang für Gäste

Everywhere throughout the flat except for a storage space under the stairs which I use for my own storage.

You will have the flat to yourselves but I am happy to offer as much or as little guidance you like before and during your stay - I love living in London and can share my favourite places and tips with you. I also have the Lonely Planet London guide for your stay, and I have plenty of other books and travel guides on London.

I speak a little French and Spanish and am keen to practice. I am happy to give advice on where to go in London, recommend restaurants, cafes or museums. Equally, if you just need a place to stay and a key that is also fine. If I am away during your stay I am always just on the other end of the phone or email and will have somebody local to help you out whenever you need.

Die Nachbarschaft

I love that there are so many little delis and cafes in the area, particularly along Brixton Road. There is a farmers' market by the church five minutes away on a Saturday. There's a fantastic Italian bakery a minute away on the end of the street with fresh bread and good coffee. Brixton is ten minutes down the road on the bus, with the amazing market with all kinds of food, new bars opening all the time.

Kennington Park is five minutes away, and a ten minute bus down another road takes you to the lovely Clapham Common. The South Bank is around a 20 minute bus ride away or under 10 minutes on the tube, as are the Imperial War Museum, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, the Tate Modern, Tate Britain, and National Theatre. The area I live in, Oval, is named after the Oval cricket ground which is a ten minute walk if you fancy catching some cricket while you're here.

I've listed a few more personal recommendations with a bit of detail about each in the map section here.

Buses and tube links are excellent. You can get to Central London in 20 minutes. The nearest tube is Oval station within Zone 2, on the Northern Line. Stockwell is a ten minute walk, also in Zone 2 and on both the Victoria and Northern lines.

Vauxhall is a 10-15 minute walk which has an overground station where many trains out of Waterloo stop, taking you to Richmond, Wimbledon, Windsor for the castle and parts of Surrey really quickly. Victoria station is 15-20 minutes away on the tube or bus.

Airports are super easy to get to, either on the tube, overground or coach from nearby Victoria (Gatwick is closest but others are also easily accessible). When you book I can advise you the cheapest and quickest way to get to my flat from where you are arriving.

Plenty of 24 hour buses within a 2 minute walk on both Brixton and Clapham Roads to Oxford Circus, Trafalgar Square, etc.

There is a Boris Bikes dock round the corner from the flat if you'd like to hire a bike. You can walk to the river in fifteen minutes, and from there along to the South Bank.

I can give you an Oyster card to borrow for your stay to save on bus, tube fares.

Weitere wichtige Infos

I do have two cats which live in the house, coming and going as they please. If you prefer cats not to come into your room that's fine. I can easily get a neighbour to feed them once a day but if you are happy to do so that would be great (they are very low maintenance and I will leave plenty of food).

I will be as flexible with check-in and check-out times as possible. I'm usually around to let you in when you need and will do my very best to accommodate your timings, I know how stressful it is being in a new city with bags so want to make things easy for you.

I love kids and I would say my flat is pretty child-friendly, let me know if there's anything specific you need if you're travelling with children.

Insgesamt also sehr empfehlenswert!

We stayed in Laura's apartment for 4 nights and the apartment was exactly as described and as shown in the pictures. She was there for check-in to walk us through the apartment and she answered all our questions. she even served us Tea and biscuits! We didn't have to worry about breakfast for the first couple days as she left fresh fruit, milk, Tea bags/Coffee, bread and cereals. We were impressed that she provided us with a map(hand made project) that highlighted the important paces near by(Oval station, Restaurants, grocery store, Bus station etc). Her kitchen was well equipped and we were able to make breakfast everyday and dinner twice during our stay. We emailed her ahead of time with requests(Extra towels and shampoos) and questions, she responded promptly and considered all our requests. Neighborhood was quiet and both the beds were daughters loved coming home to pets Alfie and Bertie:-) It was a pleasure to meet you Laura and Thank you for making us feel at home.

Laura's flat was a top find - really clean, comfy and very homely, all within a short walk to the tube and buses into the city, plus a number of convenience stores and take- aways in easy reach. Though sandwiched in-between 2 busy roads, the street is pretty quiet and a real bonus was the outside space to have a glass of something cold in after a days sightseeing (even in early April). Laura's a great host and made the whole trip hassle free. Plus she has 2 very cute cats, which was a real bonus for my 7 year old and a highlight of his trip! Highly recommended.

My daughter and I stayed at Laura's place for a week in late March. We had a wonderful time, and thoroughly enjoyed using Laura's flat as our home base. The flat is exactly as pictured: small, cosy, full of books and comfortable spaces. Don't bother packing any of our guidebooks - every possible London resource from history to food is there for you in this flat. It was perfect for two adult women to share - providing comfortable common spaces and a well-appointed bathroom, plus two good-sized bedrooms we could retreat into for some quiet time. The kitchen was teeny tiny, but very well-stocked for cooking - one of the best I have seen in a vacation rental. No need to buy all of the spices and tools one needs to really cook, and with the produce and meats at the farmer's market one could eat really well without ever going out. And the cats were wonderful - very easy to live with and so nice to come home to. The flat was very quiet -- there were people in the flats around us, but we didn't hear them much. My daughter's bedroom faced the road, and she said there was almost no noise in there at night. This is not a cookie-cutter apartment, designed to deliver the familiarity of a hotel room, so there were some quirks to navigate. But Laura's excellent, excellent communication made everything so easy. She was there for checkin to walk us through the flat, and then she was super-responsive during our stay to answer any questions we didn't think to ask in our sleep-deprived, just-off-the-plane state! She not only explained things about the flat, but was also willing to track down services and resources for us in the city. The location was ideal. The immediate neighborhood is charming. It would be easy to spend one's entire holiday exploring the parks and restaurants in this neighborhood, and those surrounding. But it also offers extremely easy access to the main tourist sights in the center. We ranged all over the city from this location, but also really enjoyed the neighborhood feel we got from visiting the farmer's market and local coffee shops. Laura was a wonderful host, and I would happy to stay here again and again.

I'm 30, I work for the Guardian programming debates and am usually pretty busy out and about, but like coming home in the evening to relax by cooking, reading, or with tea and papers in the garden at the weekend. The flat is my home and my sanctuary and I love sharing it with my guests. When I rent the whole flat out I love to travel and visit friends across the world.

I'm happy with short or longer term stays, e.g. students or anyone in London for work. Oh, and my cats rule the roost so it helps if you are not cat-phobic/don't mind an enthusiastic nuzzle every so often!

I have hosted on Air Bnb since June 2014 and it has been a fantastic experience. I look forward to meeting future guests and showing them what London has to offer.

P.S. That's not my dog, he's one of my Airbnb travel buddies :)
