The Road's End was the perfect getaway for us: a family of 7 plus 3 pets. The reason we chose this place, nestling in the heart of heavenly Coorg, was because they allowed pets.
But during our stay we discovered more reasons to love it.
The listing was perfectly communicated: there were no shortcomings. The directions provided were near-perfect. I suggest you set your GPS to 'The Road's End' and just follow your nose. It’s pretty easy to find.
The cottages are reasonably priced and very well appointed. You don't need to carry blankets, towels and such like. You won't be wallowing in five-star luxury, but that's not the point.
The place is true to what it promises. It's not as if it is not luxurious: it is, but it will be unfair to compare it with high-end hotel chains.
Most importantly, the staff at The Road's End are among the warmest you will encounter. They are extremely friendly, very efficient and prompt, courteous and ever-smiling, always at hand to help, and yet non-intrusive. They looked after us very well.
Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are enough to spoil you. I would rate the quality of the food very high.
Even though we asked for food for the pets a bit late, it was taken care of smilingly.
Recreational facilities include a small pool for kids, books to read, a billiards table, chess and other board games, etc. Oh and yes, the place has wi-fi and cable TV.
They also light up a bonfire around which you can sit, sing, eat, drink and be merry.
I assume the place also has a well-stocked bar, but being teetotalling vegetarians, it would be presumptuous of us to comment.
All in all, we had a superb time. Our family included an 80-year-old, a 75-year-old who uses a 'walker' to move around, 3 sprightly 45-plus individuals and a couple of 20-somethings. It was great for all of us. And more so for our 3 little dogs who were as welcome as we were.
While the hosts couldn't be present to meet us, they kept a constant tab checking with the staff and with us if everything was fine. Personalised service of the highest quality.
My ratings. Staff: 10/10. Location: 9/10. Food: 9/10. Cottages/Rooms: 8/10. And 20/10 for allowing pet-owners to have a quiet, relaxing time in serene surroundings, where you can listen to the music of a rivulet that gurgles past the cottages.
Take my word for it: Stay at The Road's End: you won't regret it.
Thanks, hosts, for making it a memorable holiday for us. We look forward to visiting you again.
