Completely unique, spacious loft-style quarters in a restored 1913 schoolhouse in Old Town - walk/bike to beach, restaurants, shopping. Most of our guests have a "wow!" reaction when they step through the door, because this is NOT your average one-bedroom apartment by any means: 12 ft ceilings, wood floors, open living area, partitioned bedroom, full kitchen, bath, veranda and deck, park-like grounds with huge oak trees. 2-night min. stay, three on holidays.

Die Unterkunft
The building is raised, with the living quarters on the second story, nestled in the oak trees.
It's been renovated as a duplex with the owners living on one side. Your completely private side (with its own entrances) has has huge windows overlooking the park-like grounds.
Although this is listed as a one-bedroom, it's actually a huge loft-style renovated space in a 1913 schoolhouse. The building is a rare Mississippi Landmark, the state's highest designation for a historic building. The unique architectural features include wrap-around clerestory windows (in the photos, you'll see the clerestory windows above the regular ones). The way they capture light and sky and space is fantastic - they make the large main rooms of the school seem like airy pavilions - and the ceilings appear to be much higher than twelve feet. And on nights when there's a full moon, wow! Unforgettably romantic. The location is out of hustle/bustle, yet walking distance to beach (2 blocks), historic depot park (2 blocks) and Old Town's small commercial district/marina (5 blocks). Easy walking/biking and free parking around town. Perfect for creatives and writers - it has a great library and lots of comfy reading/writing spots.

Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, Vereinigte Staaten

Some people call Bay St. Louis "Mayberry by the Sea." Ours is one of the last authentic old time neighborhoods this close to a beach. Here's a description from Ellis's book: Ancient oaks lined the coast, framing large and elegant houses - many of them built in the 1800’s. Behind this dignified vanguard, cottages clustered along narrow, shaded lanes. These neighborhoods were mixed in more ways than one. Professors lived next door to plumbers, young families next to retirees, black next to white, rich next to poor. I loved that – it flew directly in the distorted face most outsiders have pasted on the state of Mississippi.

The architectural styles of the homes varied as much as the people who lived in them. Cheek to cheek, the Creole cottage danced with the Victorian, the Greek Revival with the bungalow. In those lush yards, you could imagine the lingering ghosts from an era of ease. They didn’t want to leave. Nobody who came here wanted to leave. This place pulled at the hearts of any who have them. It promised peace and made good on its word.

We are architect Larry Jaubert and Ellis Anderson (Jaubert), writer and digital magazine publisher. We've both lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for more than thirty years and adore Bay St. Louis. We feel so fortunate to be the current stewards of Webb School and share its many charms with guests. We usually give guests a five-minute orientation tour of the apartment when they arrive, then 'poof!' we disappear until you need information or directions. If you want to find out what's happening in Bay St. Louis, you might want to check out the Shoofly Magazine - a monthly online publication filled with stories about our awesome town (Ellis is publisher and it's created each month right here in Webb School!). It has an incredible Community Calendar to help you plan your trips! To check it out, just do a search for: Shoofly Magazine.

Während deines Aufenthaltes

We generally give a short 5 minute introductory tour and then make ourselves invisible. Most of our guests value their privacy. Yet we're just next door or downstairs in our office if someone needs information or recommendations!
