Yes this is really your beach when you stay at Casa Maare. It's a turtle sanctuary, has good snorkeling and it's own swimmable cenote just steps from the beach.New patio and hammock for Mayan-style relaxing

Casa Maare---at pristine Xcacel Beach and so close to Tulum ruins, jungle cenotes, Xelha Eco-park and more--- it's your comfy, cozy home base for a great vacation. Casa Maare is your sweet little casita in the jungle of the Maya Riviera. All the comforts of home (kitchen, a/c, soft sheets and towels), all the adventure of the land of the Maya. Just minutes from Tulum ruins, spectacular white sand beaches, cool jungle cenotes, great snorkeling, tasty tacos and cold cervezas. The place is all yours (it's a second home). 1 hour 15 minutes from Cancun airport.

Welcome to Casa Maare, you've escaped to paradise on the Riviera Maya. Located between Akumal and Tulum, near Xcacel Beach, Casa Maare is furnished with Mexican style and colors using natural, sustainable materials such as bamboo. Everything about the home is fresh and bright. The casa has a traditional outdoor pergola for shade and beach towels, a cooler, chairs and umbrellas to enhance your time at Xcacel beach. The neighborhood features two pretty little cenotes and is close enough to walk to the beach or the nearby pueblo.

Casa Maare's property managers, Debra and Cowboy, will greet you upon arrival and take you for a tour of the area so you can start enjoying your stay right away. They'll be available in the neighborhood to assist you with activity planning or whatever you might need during your stay.

Casa Maare has all the comforts of home---soft sheets, soft towels, a/c, a full kitchen, a comfy couch, indoor and outdoor dining areas. Casa Maare comfortably accomodates 2 - 4 people, with indoor or outdoor dining for four and a sectional couch in the adjacent living area. A stay at Casa Maare is comfort and adventure at an affordable price. Casa Maare is situated in a unique community of brightly colored homes populated by locals and Canadian and US expats and part-timers. The neighborhood, is surrounded by jungle filled with birds and animals and also features two small cenotes. It is a short walk from the Chemuyil pueblo and pristine Xcacel beach, and is just minutes from the Meso-American reef for diving and snorkeling, and the Yucatan's famous cenotes, a system of underwater caves and caverns for the more experienced diver. A short drive or ride in a taxi or colectivo takes you to Yucatan adventures of a lifetime---Xel-Ha ecopark, the Tulum, Xelha, Muyil and Coba ruins, and the Sian Kaan Biosphere.

Casa Maare and its neighborhood are unique in that they are modest, mayan-style homes originally built as staff housing for a resort that was never built on the nearby Xcacel beach. The beach was declared a sea turtle sanctuary and the homes languished until a trio of enterprising investors re-packaged and marketed these little gems to locals and vacationers.

Built to last in the vernacular cinder-block style, these casitas have weathered 4 major hurricanes since 2001. Most owners purchased since 2007 and the tract has evolved into the techni-colored rows and various remodeled facades you see today.

Interaction is limited to email and phone. I do not live at the casa. My property managers are nearby to help with anything you need during your stay.

Public transportation is easily available just around the corner on the main street. You can hop on a collective (van service) every 20 minutes and go anywhere from Playa del Carmen to Tulum for 20 pesos between 6am and 11pm. Taxis are also available by phone and the drivers know the neighborhood and will come pick you up. It's nice to have a car but not necessary. Bicycles are great to have as the roads are flat and there's plenty to see. Ask me about arranging to have bikes ready at the house for you for an additional fee.

This is a great place! You will want to have a car to get to the sites and town, but it is very close to Tulum and Akmal Bay. It is also stocked with all the beach gear you could need. Very comfortable.

Heather's place is accurately described and pictured in her post for the property. Heather was great about responding to questions during our stay. The outdoor spaces, front and back, are well kept, but not very functional. It would be nice to have more of a space to eat/play/relax in the back and off the street with comfortable patio furniture and an umbrella or shade device. The neighborhood itself is a quiet and a cool collection of homes. Although there is a modest barrier of forest/jungle between the neighborhood and the highway, you can always hear the traffic, day and night. The pueblo is a walkable distance (20 minutes), but with small children it is hot and dusty and at night it is pitch dark which feels intimidating. The primary beach is also walkable, but the highway crossing by foot felt very, very unsafe each time we did it. The collectivo stop at the junction of the road and the highway was very convenient to get rides to other destinations, but on the return, the drop off is on the opposite side of the highway and, again, the crossing felt extremely dangerous with the kids. Other things about the house that would have been helpful: a map, both of the neighborhood and of the greater area (maybe a 5-10 mile radius) to show true distances of destinations, sites, restaurants, grocery stores, ATMs, etc. Also, house supplies and instructions could use some improvement. For example, soap for the bathroom sink to wash hands, garbage bags, toilet paper. Additional instructions: how to use the oven (manual ignite for gas stove/oven), the name of the WiFi network, how to use the home phone to make local calls. I traveled without a car and I would not do that again if I were to stay at Heather's place. If you are traveling on a budget, spend the money on a hotel on the beach and use taxis/collectivos to get around or stay at Heather's home and get a rental car. I will say that I was grateful to have a more local, authentic experience. The pueblo is very modest and the people/food were great.

Great little casita. We spent a nice week here with our boys (3 and 5). Neighbourhood is very strategically placed, lots of great spots to explore. We found that crossing the highway with little ones was sometimes a bit scary so we took the car even to go to the beach across the road. Also, light sleepers should know that the highway sounds can be heard from inside the house all day and night. Otherwise absolutely brilliant, heather was quick to respond to any questions and gave great info to ensure a nice stay.

Casa Maare was just what we were looking for. It is located in a quiet and friendly residential neighborhood, near a small Mexican village with great restaurants, and walking distance to a secluded beach. The neighborhood even has its very own cenote, which was a wonderful place for early morning swims after my walks in the jungle. The house is well-equipped with what you might need for basic cooking and beach excursions. We were greeted when we arrived by the caretaker who got us oriented. And Heather was great--always quick to respond to our emails. The only downside is that the neighborhood is right off the main highway and the highway noise is fairly loud and constant. But you do get used to it. (Bring earplugs for sleeping.) That said, the highway noise is an issue for most of the accommodations along the Mayan Riviera. On my morning walks into the jungle I found that I had to go about 2 miles straight inland before the noise petered out. For me, the highway noise was small trade off for being walking distance from one of the most stunning beaches I've ever seen.

Such a happy spot to serve as a respite on the Mayan coast! We had an excellent time at Heathers home. Of course the closeness to a beautiful and pristine beach (quite unique in the area) helps, but the carefully chosen décor sure adds to the fun. Traveling with a three-year-old, we were happy to have a car at hand to drive down to Tulum and check out different beaches along the coast, but jumping on and off the numerous collectivo's will probably work just fine too. Lastly Heathers hospitality and openness to communication deserves a special mention. She was quick to respond to our requests and in general very welcoming. A great way to finish our "Tour de Yucatan"!

I'm a designer living on the Central Coast of California specializing in the use of sustainable materials for home interiors. I have been traveling to Mexico for years and recently had the opportunity to purchase a little house in an amazing part of the Yucatan. It's my dream to share this wonderful part of the world with other travelers. I named the place Casa Maare because in the Yucatec language, "maare" is slang for "wow!" I mean, wow, I never thought I'd have a house in Mexico.

I've had such interesting and fun guests visit Casa Maare through Airbnb, that I've recently decided to share part of my home in San Luis Obispo. When I'm in SLO, I love to go out and hear live music. We have such a thriving scene here and I'm happy to steer guests toward it. I also love hiking and yoga, good food, art films and stand up paddle boarding.

Favorite destinations include Mexico, SF, LA and Portland; and in 2017, Germany and Iceland.

My life motto? Love is greater than fear.
