The Colombian monetary system does not use a dollar system. In other words a US dollar is 100 cents. Prices of COP$, drop the last 3 zeros and divide by 3. Thus, a cola is 2000 COP, drop the zeros, and it equals 2. Divide the 2 by 3, and a cola is about 1 USD (about 66 cents USD) Also break big 50,000 COP notes (about 16 USD) at larger supermarkets, drug stores, resturants, many small vendors/shops cannot change this large bill and can delay purchases for many, many minutes while the vendors scramble to find change. Pull money from ATM before the weekend as Cartagena is a tourist town and the ATM have been known to "run dry" and money will not be filled up until after the weekend! Unless you are in a large store, prices can be bargained down, as the vendor's expect you to bargain!
Pets are ok, smoking is OK. Working trash chute by elevator.

As a history buff and beach bum I have traveled to every "pirate town" from Key West, thru the Caribbean Islands, visiting most Forts/Ports from a history point-of-view. Cartagena has it all history, music, beaches, dancing, eating, modern conviences, excellent walking trails and many international tourists. I love to travel and I bought this condo years ago and I want others enjoy Cartagena in style!! Michael.
