Enjoy the best of Tuscan country and city life at Il Roseto. Set on a hilltop on a private farming estate just outside Siena, the five-bedroom villa is surrounded by olive groves.

Its stone walls and tile roof evoke traditional Tuscan style, but the elegant interiors have every modern convenience. The lush grounds are dotted with flowering bushes and include an in-ground pool, barbecue and wood-burning oven.

Stone steps lead from the villa to the pool and changing area. After preparing meals on the outdoor grill or in the wood-burning oven, open a bottle of Tuscan red and linger at the al fresco dining area. The villa sleeps ten, but if your party needs a little more room, you can rent nearby villa La Bianca, which can accommodate four additional guests.

Original beamed ceilings and handmade terracotta tile accents speak to the villa’s charming past, but a mix of antique and contemporary furniture makes for modern comfort. The property’s stables have been converted to a living room large enough to host a crowd, while the fully equipped eat-in kitchen has everything you’ll need for a family dinner or special occasion, including a dishwasher.

Two of the five bedrooms have queen beds; the remaining three bedrooms each have two twin beds. One of the queen rooms shares a bathroom—complete with Jacuzzi—with a twin room, making it an ideal layout for families with children. The second queen room and twin room each have their own en-suite bathroom, and the third twin room has an adjacent bath.

Though Il Roseta’s bucolic setting offers the chance to unwind, the villa is just a ten-minute drive from the city of Siena and its famed cathedrals and squares. See incredibly well-preserved frescoes, admire the Renaissance architecture as you stroll through the town, and share in the excitement during the running of the traditional Palio horse race. If you’re looking to explore further afield, Florence is about 50 miles away and Pisa, 100 miles.

This villa, surrounded by rolling hills and olive groves, boasts spectacular views. The stone structure and inner courtyard create a captivating atmosphere. The style of this house is eclectic featuring antiques and contemporary pieces. Original beamed ceilings, old handmade terracotta tiles, high-quality fabrics and complementary mix of antique and contemporary furniture.

The medieval town of Siena was founded by the Etruscans and later became a Roman colony. During the 13th and 14th centuries it flourished as one of the major cities of Europe, growing rich from banking and the wool trade. The 14th century saw a great amount of construction: the Duomo, the Palazzo Publico and the Campo Square were all products of this time. Siena's glory took a tragic downturn by the end of the 14th century due to the Black Death and political upheaval. The city became little more than a rural market center. It was exactly this decline that accounts for the incredible state of medieval preservation that Siena exhibits today. Built across several hills and valleys, you will find a bit of up and down while walking through the historical center. However, the lack of traffic makes it a wonderful place to stroll—even when packed with tourists, there is a quiet and easygoing feel. A must-see is the shell-shaped square called Il Campo. This is the focal point of the city as well as being the venue for the internationally renowned horse race, the Palio.

Casole d'Elsa hosts one of the most charming museums of the many recently opened/restyled in Siena. The art exhibited ranges from the Neolithic era to the XVII century. A visit to the attached Collegiata di Casole is also highly recommended.

Colle Val d'Elsa's newer outskirts offer very few attractions, aside from the crystal manufacturing—but the old town/historical center, Colle Alta, deserves to be seen. Particularly interesting in Colle Alta is the Palazzo Campana, built in the XVI century by the architect Agnolo di Baccio d'Agnolo. This private building looks like a city gate, or a triumphal arch, and dominates the main street of Colle. The Cathedral shows a rich collection of paintings from the XVII century. Don't miss the dramatic and intense Nativity by Rutilio Manetti (fourth chapel on the right, looking to the main altar).
