Let's start with the accommodations. Our room was clean and comfortable, and surprisingly spacious for being at the top floor in a historic canal house. The decor is tasteful and we had modern amenities (in-room Nespresso machine, electric water kettle, and mini-fridge) with all the charm and coziness of a traditional Dutch loft. The bathroom is exceptional and having two sinks is a blessing for getting ready. The location of the property could not possibly be better. The Nine Streets area is beyond charming. You will be criss-crossing canals as you stumble upon one boutique shop after another, interspersed with restaurants and cafes. It is also within walking distance to the city center and just about every other major highlight Amsterdam has to offer.
And now the hostess. This was the first time that my wife and I decided to take a chance on staying in a property with a host (previously, we had always rented entire properties). It turned out to be a wonderful decision. Klaske is an incredibly patient, thoughtful, and gracious host. Communication was effortless, as was check-in and check-out. As another reviewer noted, Klaske strikes the perfect balance between providing assistance and advice when needed, and giving you space at all other times. She seems to genuinely care that you are enjoying your stay, and she provided some excellent recommendations that really enhanced our vacation.
As noted, this property has narrow, steep, and winding staircases (as any Dutch canal house should), so keep that in mind if you that would pose a problem for you.
