For starters, the description doesn't convey that this is NOT actually a 1 bedroom apartment. It's a studio apartment. The entire apartment is one big hallway, and there is no door separating the bedroom. Therefore it's a studio. The photos manage to cleverly hide this fact, and the description is just plain wrong. Either the landlord has no idea what a 1 bedroom is, or this is intentional fraud. If I book a 1 bedroom apartment, and I arrive only to find that I have instead booked a studio apartment, then I can't help but feel cheated.
There are 3 kinds of landlords. First, there's the landlord that is always hanging around -- this is not ideal, but at least he's around if you need something. Second, there's the landlord that is completely incommunicado -- this is also not ideal, but at least you don't have to deal with him hanging around all the time. Third, there's the landlord who hangs around when he's not wanted BUT is simultaneously incommunicado when he's actually needed. THIS LANDLORD IS THE THIRD ONE. Whether it was providing a key to the apartment, or an ironing board to complement the pathetic little iron that was so
graciously provided to us, this guy knew how to take his sweet time. But, he always knew when to burst into the apartment (literally, burst) to ask why we hadn't vacated yet, even though we were still in the middle of our stay. (This happened several times throughout our stay, once when I was completely naked.)
Some pros and cons --
Pro: It's in midtown, very close to Hell's Kitchen.
Pro: It's near lots of great restaurants.
Pro: It's right by Port Authority, which offers several subway connections.
Con: It's right by Port Authority.
Con: It's surrounded by a sea of homeless people and drug addicts.
Con: A homeless man once pulled down his pants and flashed his dong at us, right outside our apartment.
Con: A homeless man literally died outside our apartment and was taken away in an ambulance the following morning.
This apartment is priced as a 1 bedroom apartment in Hell's Kitchen, but it's really a studio apartment right outside Port Authority. We expected a competent and hospitable host, but instead received a rude and inept curmudgeon. The "value" was disappointing, to say the least.
Would not recommend.
