Lovingly updated country house located on the Hudson River in the heart of Athens. Formerly one of the ice houses that lined the river. Close to area attractions combined with the serenity of being on the river. We love it, and hope you will, too!
We are excited to share our home with you! Conveniently located between the Hudson River and one of the main streets in Athens, our place provides a nice riverside respite from busy lives, while still providing walkable access to the rest of downtown Athens.
Directly on the Hudson River - expansive backyard with a deck, a smoker, a grill and a picnic table for use. The property is located on about 1 acre, with a good amount of yard. Although we are right on the Hudson, unless you would like to scramble through brush, you would have to walk to the access point in Athens to dip in the water.
There are 3 bedrooms plus a pullout couch. Two of the bedrooms have queen-sized beds; the third bedroom contains a daybed with two twin-sized mattresses; the couch has a full-sized mattress.
Downstairs features an open floor plan, with a big farmhouse kitchen table for family meals.
Athens' village contains a local brewery (Crossroads) with seasonal craft beers and local foods, a French restaurant, a great breakfast spot, and a high-end B&B / restaurant with a waterfront bar (Stewart House).
Fifteen minutes from Athens is Hudson, NY. Big town center with antiquing, restaurants, grocers, design shops and a burgeoning art scene. Great farmers' market on Saturday morning. Ten minutes away is the town of Catskill, with a great up-and-coming gallery scene, kayak/paddleboard rentals, and all the commerce you could want (Wal-Mart, etc.).
Other local attractions (within 30 minutes) are the towns of Woodstock and Saugerties, as well as many pick your own farms, etc. Lots of area hiking and skiing in the winter (e.g. Hunter Mtn is ~40 min away). A little farther (approximately 1 hour) is the Saratoga race track.
Of note: We have been fixing up the house and there are a few minor things that are works in progress (still needs some paint here and there, etc.). But as can be seen by the photos, it is a very comfortable place to stay. Please also note that we do not have A/C. We have not needed it given the mild climate and are comfortable with open windows and fans, but we realize that may not suit everyone.
