This is a very small, but very unique, free-standing gate house. Located in Manhattan on 3rd St between Ave B and C in the East Village. Since it's free-standing, you have no neighbors and direct access to the street. It's just you in this studio-sized, ivy-covered, brick house.
The interior space is one very small room, furnished with a loft bed, kitchenette and separate, full bathroom. The ceilings are very high - 12 feet - and there are three skylights so it feels open and gets a lot of light. There's also a side door that leads to a gated, private yard space - very rare amenity in Manhattan!
There are two places to sleep - a full-sized bed in the loft or the full-sized pullout sofa. To give you a sense of how small the space is, when the sofa bed is pulled out, there's just barely enough room to walk around it. So the space is best suited for one or two people but can officially sleep a third if they are very small and don't mind the cramped space.
The house has wireless internet but it is not very reliable and seems to go out whenever it rains. We try to ensure that it is working but it's not always possible. So if it is urgent that you have a connection at all times, this might not be the place for you.
The East Village is a lively neighborhood with tons of restaurants and nightlife at every corner. You are within one block of a 24-hour supermarket, laundromat and several boutiques and dining options. Nearest subway is the F/V Train at 2nd Ave, 5 blocks away. The 6 Train is two blocks further at Bleecker/Lafayette.
The main house, behind this property is also available for rent. I have a separate posting for it on airbnb entitled Cottage in the Village. The two houses can be rented together for your own private use of the entire property and yard and would accommodate up to 8 guests total.
Guests will have full and private access to the little house. It is not a share. There is a house in the back however that other guests stay in. They walk through your yard to get to it but they have their own yard to relax in.
I am usually nearby but often do not see our guests. You will have as much privacy as you want but if you need anything I am not far.
Many people have trouble figuring out how to use the shower. When you turn it on, water comes out of the bathtub faucet. To divert the flow to the shower head, simply pull down on the lever surrounding the water flow located on the bathtub faucet.
Please no smoking in the house. You can smoke outside. Please take out the trash, strip the beds and discard any food you brought when you leave.
My name is Olivia. I live in NY and work as a therapist. I have been lucky enough to call these three really cool spaces home -- a very unique little cottage in the East Village with an even smaller gate house, and a charming beach house in the heart of the Hamptons. I love living in the city but the house in Amagansett is the perfect escape when I need a break. Being able to share my homes on Airbnb helps me cover the expenses of both, meet new people and explore new travel destinations
