I have standard check in and check out times that need to be honored, but I can sometimes be flexible as to your arrival and departure times, as long as I have time to clean between guests. Please let me know what time you will be arriving and departing when you make your reservation to help me plan.
The entrance to the basement apartment is on the south side of the house, or the right side if you are looking at the house from the street. The house is large and yellow if you have trouble seeing the number due to the grapevines. It has keyless entry-- to unlock the door you will use a four digit access code that I will give you after you make the reservation. Please don't come to the front door of the house so as to avoid Suki the dog barking.
The basement apartment is separated from the rest of the house, where we live, by a door at the top of the stairs. The door is kept closed during your visit. You are welcome to visit us upstairs, meet Suki, or use the kitchen, as long as it is coordinated with me. There is a washer and dryer in the utility room in the basement that you may use upon request. I also use the laundry room in the basement and I If I need to do laundry during your stay, I will work with your schedule to minimize any impact on you. Parking is readily available on the street.

We have a nordic spitz dog (Suki) living in the main house, who is very alert and will bark when she hears something. So you are guaranteed to hear barking at some point if she is in the house during your stay. To minimize barking due to her hearing you in the basement apartment, it can help if Suki meets you, but this is at your discretion. Also, we are early risers, especially on school/work days, and although there is sound insulation between floors, some sound does travel.
The gas fireplace gets very hot and can cause severe burns if touched while operating. Please exercise caution in general and keep small children away from the stove and from the remote to avoid having it turned on unintentionally.
Family/child friendly and LGBTQ friendly.

We ask that guests take off their shoes in the apartment (bring slippers if you need them!), do no harm, and clean up after themselves. There is NO smoking/vaping of any kind allowed anywhere on the property, inside or out. Also, NO heavy alcohol use or recreational drug use of any kind, including legal marijuana. IF YOU ARE A SMOKER, OR PLAN TO EXPLORE OREGON'S LEGAL POT SCENE, PLEASE LOOK FOR OTHER ACCOMMODATIONS. Do not move the furniture. Put food waste directly into the green compost bin outside, as leaving out food inside can attract ants. No parties, loud music or rowdy behavior. No strong perfumes, colognes, scented candles or other scents that linger, so as not to affect the next guests. Please coordinate with me if you want to invite your own guests over to the apartment, apart from inviting over a few family/friends you are visiting in town, which is fine. No one is allowed to enter or stay in the apartment in your absence. Do not share your access code with anyone. Guests staying longer than 30 days are required to sign a rental agreement. Your cooperation is very much appreciated, thank you!
I have lived in Portland for nearly 30 years, love my city, and am more than happy to offer recommendations for things to do, places to go and how to get around if you would like. I have lots of suggestions for outdoor activities in particular, and plenty of hiking books to peruse. We have full, busy lives, are in and out a lot, and so do not get a chance to meet all our guests, but I am almost always available to answer questions via text/email/phone if I am not available in person.
Hi, my name is Lucy! I am an active non-profit professional living in Portland, OR with my teenage daughter and energetic nordic spitz dog. We are outdoor enthusiasts, in love with the Pacific Northwest's great places to hike, ski, backpack and swim. We bike quite a bit around Portland, being the great biking city it is, and also enjoy reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends. My life motto is how I was taught to ski: point downhill and lean forward.
