Pets are welcome! We allow pets in our Caribe cottage.

“The Sugarhouse” is pure Vermont. Complete with a beautiful claw foot bathtub and vaulted ceiling, designed from a traditional Vermont sugarhouse. The smell of the local white cedar interior is as sweet as any grade of syrup. The Sugarhouse is also the “greenest” of our cottages, utilizing almost all local and recycled materials. A pine plank breakfast nook, spalted maple trim, and marble corner sink to name a few. The Sugarhouse reflects Vermont tradition with a touch of romance. One queen bed-sleeps 2.

“The Caribe” is our ode to time spent relaxing. There is absolutely no reason the island life cannot be lived in any climate. The warm colors and textured interior make a blender drink in the middle January seem completely appropriate. A slightly smaller bathroom leaves more room for lounging and jumping on the bed. Life is a beach, and that beach is in front of the Caribe at Shéady Acres. One queen bed-sleeps 2. Pet friendly! A one time pet fee will be due upon arrival of $30 only for those bringing pet(s).

“The Tea House” is a tribute to Asian culture. Simplicity. Symmetry. Sake. A pergola and large deck will lead you into this “Chashitsu”. You will find a timber framed ceiling, bamboo floors and counter top, as well as shoji doors. This may be your only chance to stay in a Japanese pagoda in Northern Vermont. Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think. One queen bed-sleeps 2.

We loved staying in the Caribe! It was so quiet and peaceful. We had everything we needed for a three night stay, with great restaurants nearby. Extra helpful was the binder provided with all the information we needed.

I loved it here so much. Cozy, comfy bed, adorable atmosphere, quiet, and very Vermont! It's in a remote area, so the wifi doesn't work well, but they are fixing it--and you can find a great connection 10 minutes down the street at Jay Peak. If you're looking to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature, this is your spot! I hope to return soon.

Northern Vermont seems to call out to us every summer when we’re looking for a respite from busy city life. We found Sheady Acres and were very pleased with our choice. We stayed in the Irish Farmhouse even though we didn’t have a dog. We wanted a bit more room to spread out since my husband is having a slow recovery from a recent bike accident and needed a second area to sleep if he was having night time pain. He did, and there is a futon downstairs. The Farmhouse was a great space, and had everything we needed. The drying rack for drying hot tub towels, great smelling natural soaps and linens, coffee maker, pots/pans. We even asked to borrow a few squirts of bug spray one day, to which Shawna was very accommodating (don’t worry, the bugs aren’t everywhere. It just depends on how much standing water there is, how level of a hike/walk, how much rain there has been, wind, etc). Eamon and Shawna are very nice people who have set up a hard-working (and envious!) life here at Sheady Acres. They give you your privacy and space if you want it, but are also available for chatting and questions if need be. The craftsmanship of each cabin is not to be overlooked and the attention to details was very much appreciated. The acres and acres of grounds are also beautiful to explore. They have built trails so you can walk around. We found a lovely bubbly creek with large boulders and small falls where one could hang out in silence. I also loved seeing their choice of landscaping at each cabin, and somehow all of the plants seemed to be in bloom for our arrival! I’m sure that wasn’t the case, but the colors were gorgeous. At morning, I’d go outside and sit to watch the large spider come down from the eave to spin her web and eat her prey, or the hummingbird feed at the red flowering perennials (looks like red daisies?). I can only imagine how wonderful the hot tub is after a long day of skiing. We enjoyed it each evening, even though it was a “balmy” 60 degrees on these end of summer nights. It soothed our legs after hiking Jay Peak and other surrounding trails. The area is fantastic for hiking, general exploring and craft beer (Lost Nation, RockArt, Idletime, Von Trapp, etc)! There is even an authentic Texas BBQ food truck/trailer just a mile down the road from Sheady Acres. That was a real treat on our first night in. The only caution I may make is that, while set back from the main road (Rt. 242), you can hear the occasional cars going by. You are not deep into the woods. There are advantages and disadvantages to that. Also, the Wifi can get a little bit spotty especially (it seemed) with the heavy rains we had. Fine for us. We were not there to be online all day,...

Über Eamon

Shéady Acres started over 20 years ago when I purchased 25 acres of prime meadow and woodlands on Rte 242 in Montgomery Center, Vermont. A treehouse was my first endeavor where I lived for a few years. The West was calling my name, however, so I spent a few winters in Winter Park, Co and Jackson Hole, WY always returning in the spring to my first love, Vermont.
My wife, Shawna and I, met in Winter Park and have two lovely daughter's who are 8 and 4 years old. We have a home that I built on Shéady Acres and I’ve been in the carpentry/ construction business for over 10 years. I dabble with pencil drawings and started focusing on cottages that I could design and build myself and rent to visitors who come to the Jay Peak Area. Having traveled to different parts of the world, I came up with The Sugar House which is pure Vermont, the Caribe which is my interpretation of the Caribbean cottage and the Tea House which is my take on the Japanese Pagoda.
Shéady Acres Cottages have been a labor of love and an expression of creativity that we sincerely hope will be shared by those who come to visit us. Give us a try. We look forward to hearing from you.
