Although my partner is often away on business, I work from home and I am often around to help with any questions you may have. I enjoy meeting new people having travelled widely, and having lived and worked overseas for a number of years fully appreciate the importance of home comforts for weary travellers, as well as respecting the need for quiet privacy which I need when I am working.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the comforts of my home within access restraints above, and if I am not working I am happy to show you around the local area, go for a meal or a drink.
Putney is a great neighbourhood. It doesn't feel like a busy London thoroughfare yet it is only 15 minutes by train or tube, and a little more by bus from most of the popular London sights.
If you set out early you can even catch a river boat, a 5 minute walk away, that will take you all the way to the Tower of London or Greenwich in the other direction; Wimbledon, for the tennis, is a 10 minute tube ride away.
The world-famous Oxford and Cambridge boat race starts on the Putney side of the River Thames which is only a 2 minute walk away. The race in 2017 will now feature men's AND women's teams and runs over the Easter week-end and during that weekend Putney is a great place to be.
There is a local swimming pool with a gym and a yoga centre, for drop-in yoga, nearby. There are some great parks to enjoy and Putney common is delightful for walking or running. Richmond Park is a 15 minute bus ride.
There is a local shopping centre with plenty of food shops and a great Waitrose super-market. For a quiet evening there is a local cinema, a local theatre group, and the local pubs all do great food. A 5 minute walk away will take you to the famous Half-Moon pub and music venue.
There is a choice of two tube stops at Putney Bridge and East-Putney, both on The District line, four stops from Earls Court, with easy access to central London and Heathrow Airport which is on the Piccadilly line and about a 35 minute ride from Terminals 1,,2,3,4 and 5.
The Gatwick express takes you directly to Victoria and a direct connection on the district line to Putney.
The 22 bus which is just across the road from the house, takes you on a great iconic route through the Kings Road in Chelsea, to Sloane Square, up to Knightsbridge where you have Harrods and Harvey Nichols, and onto Hyde-Park, Marble Arch and Piccadilly Circus. From there it is a short walk to Oxford Street.
From Putney over-ground station you are 10 minutes away from Waterloo and the South Bank, or the many trains that will take you out of London. On the same line you are 5 minutes from Clapham Junction where you can take a train to Brighton, only an hour away, or into the heart of the country side with Chocolate Box villages and cosy country pubs.
Wimbledon is an easy bus-ride or tube ride away. We also have the famous Boris bicycles which are available for easy hire and there is a public rack of bikes a 5 minute walk away along the Lower Richmond Road.
I use a local taxi service and can arrange a taxi for you with short notice.

We are a no-smoking house, and have a 'no shoes' policy when we leave the solid oak floor of the living area and tiled kitchen so no shoes on the carpets please. Cream carpets on the stairs, landings, and bedroom dictate that rule. For the same reason we discourage food in the bedrooms and care with any drinks; spills on cream carpets are impossible to remove completely but there is a small chill fridge in the guest bedroom to keep drinks cool and a small kettle to make tea or coffee when you wake.
If guests use the kitchen they are kindly asked to wash-up after, and clear away any mess.
For long-stay guests, clean linen and towels are provided on request; cleaning implements and vacuum cleaner are made available so that long-stay guests may maintain their privacy, although a cleaner can be arranged at good local rates.
Long-term guests may do a machine wash once a week with the provision of their own laundry powder and on a day in the week agreed with the host.
Any breakages must be reported to the host and the
client is expected to replace items broken which would include crockery.
It is expected that the bedroom and the bathroom are left in the condition of cleanliness that guests encounter on their arrival. Having had a number of long stays we all manage to enjoy privacy, and interaction, and I welcome hosting all who are here to enjoy all that Putney, and London, have to offer.
Apart from no-smoking, no pets, wash up your plates and cups, and 'no shoes' we are easy going, and simply request that guests treat our home respectively and enjoy what London has to offer. It is not a party house. Guests are requested not to bring anyone to the property, and invite them in, at any-time during their stay. There maybe exceptional circumstances but this must be discussed and agreed with the host in advance.

I have lived and worked in eight very different countries from the depths of Borneo to the remote Island of St Helena, bang in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean and without an airport. I am used to moving home and when I travel I always bring music and once I carried books but now it is a kindle.
I enjoy photography, good food, and wherever I am I try to make time to run. I am independent, but enjoy good conversations over a glass of wine. I love cinema, theatre and I get pleasure from walking on the beach, strolling through woods, climbing mountains, exploring rain forests and learning about different histories and cultures.
I have two grandsons who I hope I will take travelling one day. I travel light and still feel there is room in my life for discovery and adventure. When I return to my lovely home in London I intend to make a room so I too can be a host on Airbnb, meantime I hope my current Airbnb experiences will give me inspiration and ideas for being a great host; a wonderful alternative to the anonymity of hotels.
