"Unfortunately, this property did not meet our expectations. Our issues were privacy, safety and security, and host not following up regarding an amenity that did not work. Based on the pictures and description, the property looks very private and somewhat secluded. However, you’re actually staying in a compound." A compound - lol. We have three gates to get in. This is a large ranch surrounded by other large ranches. Our neighbors on one side have a high fence for their exotic animals. On the other side is an old ranch that was partially high-fenced to help prevent roadkill. On our own ranch, we raise goats, cows, and sheep - which require fences and gates. Folks definitely don’t get in here by accident. "The owners are your next door neighbors and other occupied homes are within 300 yards from you." “The bunkhouse” was built by our family in the 1950’s. Over the decades, kids and grandkids built their own homes nearby. The bunkhouse became a place for us to let our extended family and friends sleep for the holidays… or after a long day on the river. If you stay out here, it’s not unusual to see us out enjoying the ranch life. However, when we come home at night we make every effort to allow our guests plenty of privacy. "Right across the narrow river, there are more than a dozen properties that you can easily see from the deck." We actually really enjoy that view. There is a farmhouse and horse pasture. There are neighbors fishing and playing in the rapids. Sometimes early in the morning there are large herds of deer grazing. "Regarding safety and security, the front door does not lock. The deadbolt does not align with the recess in the door jamb. We called the owner to fix or provide a solution. He was not able to fix, but solution was to pull the door up with force so it could lock. This somewhat worked with my husband and the owner pulling it up on both sides, but when we tried to do it the next day, it just didn’t work and we didn’t want to break the latch or the door. Luckily we were just there for 2 days and the area is very safe, but it was a bit stressful to leave our dog and belongings in a house with an unlocked door. Also, it is illegal to rent a property or hotel room that does not have a working lock. " We are very sorry about this! We were aware that the door lock was getting difficult, but didn’t realize it had become unusable. It must have felt very strange to not be able lock your doors and feel safe out here in the country. The door lock is now working properly. "WIFI did not work, contacted owner, didn’t hear back from him. Husband needed WIFI to do some work in the evenings, WIFI did not work at all during our stay. And you’re in the country, so you get spotty or no cellular connection." We’ve had trouble finding a good internet service out here in the country. There is no such thing as unlimited data, and often we have folks out here that like to stream or download movies. When the data runs out, the wifi gets pretty bad. However, we recently upgraded our internet service, so although we are very sorry we were busy that weekend, we did receive your messages loud and clear. The internet is working now. "The house and beds were comfortable, the views were nice, and we enjoyed the hot tub. However, having paid $800 for a 2 night stay, the overall value was not there for us." We are very sorry you were disappointed with your stay, however, your review and input have helped us learn a little bit more about being a good host. Several improvements have been made, including a working door lock, upgraded wifi, and a little extra help with hosting so that our guests can receive a more timely response. To get a good idea of what it’s like out here at Owl Spring Ranch, you can always follow our (Hidden by Airbnb) page where we post pics of the ranch, the family, the hunting grounds, the views, the river, and other random stuff. Hope this helps. :-)
