Renovated 1830's historic house on private lane. Sunny, beautiful, rambling backyard for playing and entertaining. Steps from Sheriff's Meadow pond and sanctuary and 5 min. walk to downtown shops, restaurants, boat landing; fuller st. beach 10 min.
The house is a wonderful mix of town and country, privacy and convenience. It is airy and light, with large beautiful windows and an easy indoor-outdoor feel. It's ideal for a couple with 1-3 children. The peaceful and secluded backyard is perfect for grilling and entertaining. Originally the house is where the ice cutter for Sheriff's pond and his goats lived. At the end of a dead-end lane, it's a wonderful summer retreat. The walking trail around the pond begins where the lane ends, and from there you can take a back trail to Eel Pond, and across to Fuller Street Beach. It is a short walk to town and a short drive or bike to multiple beaches.
This is summering in Edgartown as it was in the 70s, or when your grandparents came here. Beach plums and bare feet and bathing suits drying on the line, cocktails and dinner in the backyard. It is carefree and happy as long as it is what you are expecting.
This is not a house with all contemporary amenities. If you are looking for central air and en suite bathrooms this might not be the best fit for you. The house is an antique with an upstairs floorplan to match: the master bedroom is just under 200 sq ft. The bedrooms upstairs share one bathroom and the front bedroom is accessed through the master bedroom, while the back bedroom can be accessed through the bathroom or through the master bedroom.
The house is perfect for a couple with children, including a nanny; or for a couple and a friend in the downstairs bedroom. It is tight for two couples, as the downstairs double is a cubby bed. Please consider this before booking! Additionally, during the busy summer season arrivals and departures are on the weekends.

The catbirds that appear in the backyard have learned to eat raisins right out of your hand over generations. They are real characters.

We really enjoy traveling and exploring together -- mountains, cities, running, reading -- and Airbnb has allowed us to stay in amazing places and meet wonderful people. We are now very happy to list our own house on Martha's Vineyard and our studio building in western Massachusetts through Airbnb. We hope some of you out there will find them friendly and beautiful spots for your vacation or artistic escape!
