La Source is a lovely stone farmhouse in the charming, authentically French village of Chaumeil. In 2016 we were inspected by Alastair Sawday’s Special Places to Stay and we were awarded a place in their prestigious guide. The house sits in a private garden with wonderful views across the ancient church, the village and the wooded hills beyond.
The house sleeps eight in 2 double & 2 twin rooms. Please note that 2 rooms are connected, making a family suite with an ensuite bathroom.
Chaumeil is a beatiful, traditional French village in the heart of the Monedieres mountain range. The village has an ancient bar (1550) that serves meals and snacks in summer and is just a few steps away from the house. You can enjoy an aperitif before dinner on your own terrace overlooking the private garden. Inside the house you will find all the character and charm of a 17th century farmhouse as well as all modern comforts and convenience. In the salon you will find a magnificent cantou or fireplace with a large, cosy woodburning stove. In the kitchen is a woodburning cooker although there is also an electric oven and gas hob for convenience. Enjoy your meals at the large, oak dining table. There are four good-sized bedrooms which are lovely and light with amazing views over the village and the mountains beyond. Two of the bedrooms are connected and there is an en-suite bathroom, with toilet, marble washbasin and overbath shower leading off one of these rooms. There is also another shower room with washbasin and toilet off the landing. Beds are comfortable and linen is all beautifully laundered cotton. There is a choice of duvet or sheets in warm weather.

The whole house and garden are yours for the duration of your stay. The private garden surrounds the house on three sides and is screened by hedges. The barn at the back is ours and ensures your privacy and seclusion. The very friendly neighbours occasionally walk by and say 'bonjour' but otherwise you will find this a quiet and private location.

The Maison des Monedieres information office is in the village just behind the ancient church (open April to October) and will provide information about services, locations and events. We live about 20 minutes from Chaumeil and can be with you in an emergency. You may contact us for information by email or by text message.
