Journey off-road into Ireland's ancient past at the Glen House, in a secluded, lush valley on Rossnaree Estate, 5min from historic village of Slane on the River Boyne opposite megalithic site, Newgrange.

The glen house is a recently rebuilt 200 year old stone cut cottage situated at the UNESCO Bru na Boinne world heritage site at the bend of the Boyne- burial site of the high Kings of Ireland. Completely secluded on over 200 acres of private land, at Rossnaree estate in Co. Meath, the Glen House has a breathtaking view across the River Boyne and to the megalithic site of Newgrange built over 3000 years ago. The interior of the house is stylish and eclectic with all mod cons, central heating, an AGA style cooker, master en suite bedroom complete with a super king size 4 poster bed, and surrounded by rustling trees and the glen stream before it joins the river. The spacious open plan living room and kitchen is a lovely space to enjoy meals with family and friends. The outside garden trails into a large open field that meets the banks of the River Boyne. Here you will find total peace and tranquillity- visitors often say that it is one of the most magical places they've ever stayed in! There is garden furniture to enjoy the views from a raised patio surrounded by flowers and trees.

The house is completely secluded , with access down a private 300 metre lane. Guests are welcome to walk the land along the river and through the glen.... With its own micro-climate and lush vegetation, the glen is full of ancient trees, ferns, fungus and seasonal plants including wild garlic and bluebells, and is also the site of a key skirmish during the decisive Battle of the Boyne, when King James' troops prematurely harried King William of Orange's advance troops at the ford at Rossnaree over 300 years ago. The Glen House boasts a secret 'pirate ship' called the salty pup (small brother to the salty dog) on a steep bank adjacent to the garden, where children can haul themselves by rope onto a tree-deck and enjoy the magic of the forest surrounding the house. This is a home-built adventure playground in a setting like an Elsa Beskow storybook; children are happily entertained for hours. We also have a rustic bbq area for al fresco dining on summer evenings.

This cottage is available for both short stays and extended periods upon request. A family member or friend will always be nearby in case of any queries. Feel free to borrow our bicycles , and a vehicle can also be made available to EU citizens upon request.

The area is special for it's history, it's outstanding natural and unspoilt beauty, the historic village of Slane, Rossnaree fishery, Bru na Boinne megalithic complex, the Battle of the Boyne, lay lines, King Cormac, the Salmon of Knowledge, Mellifont Abbey, Drogheda

We are only 45 minutes from Dublin, half an hour from Dublin Airport on the M1 motorway, and just over an hour from Belfast - there are also regular buses from a bus stop 5mins drive from our house.

We are only 45 minutes from Dublin - there are also regular buses from a bus stop that is 5mins from our house. Pretty Slane village is very close, with a delicious patisserie full of treats, some great pubs full of live music and craic, a buzzing hotel and election of restaurants. Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre is a 15 minute walk down the road where you can join an official tour to learn about Ireland's oldest prehistoric monument and spot the Glen House from a different perspective!
