From the moment we arrived, Franz welcomed us warmly and helped us get settled into his lovely flat in Gengenbach. Always accessible by phone or message, Franz was wonderful at communicating and even helped us make a reservation at the cafe across the street for breakfast the following morning. The flat was comfortable and clean, great bed and AWESOME coffee/cappuccino machine :). The wifi was available but a bit slow. Super easy walking to many cafes, restaurants, and bars in a delightfully lively town. Perfect location for exploring all that the Black Forest has to offer!

Our stay at Franz and Karin's place in Gengenbach was absolutely lovely! We found the listing easily and Karin met us at the flat. It was exactly as shown in the photos, clean and well kept. Gengenbach is a very charming town and a great jumping off place to go on hikes in the Schwarzwald. We enjoyed the restaurants and bakeries in town as well! Thanks for the lovely stay, we hope to be back!

Everything was so good, beautiful and more than we expected! I can't tell you how nice were Karin and Franz, The apartment was clean, decorated in a lovely way, in the center of Gengenbach, everything was around, restaurants, bakery, supermarket, even the train station was with a walking distance, The view of the black forest from the bedroom window was amazing! The most beautiful surprise was, Karin and Franz were waiting for us in the train station to welcome us when we arrived, We had technical issues with the TV, I called Karin, Franz was in the apartment after ten minutes to fix the problem, If you want to go to Gengenbach, then you have to stay in this apartment, Gengenbach is the most beautiful place in the black forest,

Gengenbach is a beautiful town. The apartment is located in the centre of town. It is close to the railway station and all shops and amenities. We were surprised by the KONOS tax of about two euros per person per night. We were even more surprised by the great benefits that came with it. We travelled on public transport to Baden Baden, Triberg, Freiburg and Strasbourg without charge using this card. We could also use the local bus to travel to and from the supermarket. We walked extensively around Gengenbach and the hills around it. There is often a morning market in the town square and on Sundays the town square was traffic free and there were a number of community events that everyone participated in. The local brass band gave an enjoyable concert on the Sunday we were there. The locals (and us) enjoy sitting in the sun at the outdoor cafes and drinking coffee and eating great pastries and cakes. We enjoyed a pizza at the big Italian cafe on the market square. Franz and Karin's apartment is on the fourth floor of a restored building next to one of the old town gates. The bedroom is a loft above the main apartment and is reached by a steep stairway/ladder which is problematic when descending at 3.00am. We were happy to discover that we were still capable of dealing with the challenge. (We are in our late sixties). The bed is very comfortable and there is plenty of room for suitcases etc. The apartment is well heated, has a good bathroom and comfortable living area. The kitchen is well equipped with cutlery, crockery and the like. No egg slice, bread knife or toaster is a bit of a problem. There is however, a microwave and a very good coffee machine. There is plenty of bench space and an adequate fridge. The apartment is decorated with lots of knick knacks. We didn't use the TV because there were only German channels. There are lots of books, but again all in German, which isn't surprising because Gengenbach seems to be generally a town for German tourists. The wifi in the town is dreadful. Download speeds operate at a crawl. This is a problem throughout the town, so if you are thinking of using Netflix to overcome the TV problem, forget it. If you can't read or speak German, I suggest you bring your own reading material. Karin and Franz live nearby and are easy to contact. Checkout was a snap. Franz arrived at the prearranged time and helped us to the station with our luggage. We loved our week in Gengenbach and highly recommend it as a destination from which to explore the Black Forest. We also recommend Franz and Karin's apartment, but don't forget the stairs.

Amazing location and wonderful hosts. Karin & Franz met us at the train station. It was a short walk to the apartment, which is directly next to one of the old city towers. Great access to the old town, and a quick walk to the train station for visiting other towns in the Black Forest. The apartment was clean, had a nice little kitchen, dining area and a comfortable bed. The only negative was that the WiFi was extremely slow (around 0.2 Mbps in some tests)--we just tethered since the cell signal was great there. FYI, the stairs to the bedroom are steep; it was fine for us, but something to consider if you have an issue climbing stairs.
