Camouflaged - all the better to view water fowl and life on the river. We don't cut any trees down :) Driving down the laneway to the cabin past the hayfield.

Great place to be off the grid. We wanted an experience as close to camping as possible, while giving us some flexibility with a very small baby. This hit the nail on the head. Very rustic but easy to cook and clean up. The cabin was spacious enough to enjoy ourselves despite the rainy weather. Beautiful part of the Ottawa River.

If youre looking for a quiet and scenic place to get away, look no further. Tom's property is absolutely gorgeous, waking up by the river in the morning is the best feeling. The canoes were a fantastic touch, we really enjoyed them. The hosts were easy to get ahold of and super friendly, and kindly accomodated us with a late check-out. Thanks so much again!

Solid weekend destination for anyone in Ottawa and the valley area. Power is via single solar panel but solid wifi, canoe, and little fire area make it worth while. Propane and firewood was provided and the hosts were super nice. Comfy king bed. Only con was the mosquitos finding their way in as the doors aren't true. Games and radio would be a nice touch — fortunately we brought our own.

Absolutely beautiful. Karen and Tom make sure you have all you need and are comfortable. There is lots to do and explore.. My kids loved the kayak and canoes.. The water was calm and safe which made it fun and easy to travel to the near by ISLANDS. Just remember to bring lots of water... And if you forget no big deal there is a store 6 min drive away.

We just got back from the cabin on the river. The cabin is two rooms and a loft space. There are two doors, and one has a screen door (at the front) but it has huge gaps around it, so I wouldn't recommend leaving the lights on in the cottage at night. To my knowledge, the windows didn't open, so it was stuffy at night. Rocks hold the doors closed, fyi. Very rustic. The back room has a king-size sleeping space, but for those with mobility issues, there may be problems getting into the bed, as it's about 4ft off the ground. The host has provided a small step stool, but I have a bad shoulder and I had difficulty climbing up. There is a brand new (very comfortable) futon mattress in the main living space. The loft space is accessed by a brand new fold-up ladder, and there are two thin camping air mattresses up there. I believe there was also a blow-up mattress in a box if needed. There is a propane stove/oven combination in the cabin. Two of the three burners work, but the stove does not. There is also a small propane bbq outside, and there is a grate for the campfire if you want to cook over the fire. There is salt and pepper and maybe some assorted spices and condiments left by other campers. There is no running water in the cabin - yet. There is a hose with pump hooked to the outside of the cottage by the front step. The water is coming right from the beach and isn't potable. We boiled it in order to do our dishes. The sink is a large stainless steel bowl. There is dish soap, dish cloths, and enough pots / pans / plates / silverware to cook a meal and serve four comfortably. There is a Coleman solar shower on the bookshelf. We didn't use it. There are enough lights for the evening, and there is a battery that provides enough power for you to plug in your cellphone. There's no signal (we had a Telus and a Rogers phone) but the host has made wifi available! The outhouse is about a 3 minute walk back down the laneway and up a hill. The host provides toilet paper, towels, and bedding. Two big negatives for us - the number of black flies in the laneway made it impossible to take a relaxing walk through the woods. Secondly, the beach and dock areas are completely natural and there are lots of water weeds and reeds. It made swimming difficult and unpleasant for us. Two big pluses - the site is extremely quiet, as advertised. During the week, there is almost no noise at all. On weekends, you seem to hear the power boats on the main river. It's incredibly peaceful and very easy to fall asleep in the hammock. Secondly, the scenery is absolutely wonderful. Do yourself a favour and get up early to enjoy the...

Tom and Karen are great hosts. Their cabin invites to a relaxing stay at the riverside. We had a good time while bbqing, canoeing and relaxing in the hammock. Special thanks to Tom for the delicious maple syrup from your farm!

Tom and his family are running an alternative gardening operation called Zero Carbon Garden. They grow organic vegetables which they sell at farmers markets and also do community supported agriculture (CSA).

"We want to share and educate visitors at our secluded water frontage along the Ottawa River.

We encourage people to visit the gardens, smell the flowers, and even pull a weed or two. Partly to show people, especially kids where real food comes - the soil. If you want to help in the garden we often trade vegetables for your effort.

We make and sell maple syrup from our sustainable sugar tree forest.

I am a professional technical writer. I write poems short stories and with one novel published I am working on a sequel to the Pilgrimage of Amos available on Amazon or at my cabin or house.
My joys each day are:
- meeting new travelers to Canada.
-bring people from all over the world together to see how life can be simple and beautiful is why I like to host people
- playing my fiddle and guitar around the campfire and kitchen table.

Karen is a co-host and Amy has the Transcendental Cottage listed here are also hosts at this property each with a distinctive and unique philosophy about the river and the environment along the shoreline. We all take great care to treat our guests like the wild environment along the river shore - with great care!

Once we meet we can exchange stories and perhaps grow a sensible place on the planet. "
